Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 30, 2021 12:23 pm Please could anyone advise their experiences with amending contracts and adding penalty clauses with major building companies? I’m curious as to whether accepting their standard contract is the only way forward or if people have managed to add clauses? We are looking at doing a knock down rebuild and are curious to know whether we should try and have penalty clause put in if the build runs longer than expected for reasons within the builders remit? Re: Contracts and Penalty Clauses 2May 30, 2021 1:52 pm Some builders have them by default. Something like paying 50 bucks per day or so. With others - you can ask them to put it in, but I'm not sure they will be inclined to agree in the current climate. With all the govt handouts to the industry builders aren't exactly lacking jobs so can afford to be picky. Doesn't hurt to ask though. Worst case they say no, and you're no worse off than you are now. Re: Contracts and Penalty Clauses 3Jun 02, 2021 4:55 pm ![]() Some builders have them by default.
