Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 12, 2021 9:14 am Hey guys, Have some questions about garage size. A normal double car garage seems to be about 5.5x5.5m. If I want to fit a wall of storage in the garage, plus potentially be able to store a small/mediumish boat in the garage, what size and even height would you think a garage size should be? Keen to hear thoughts on this. Re: Garage size questions 2May 12, 2021 10:35 am How long is a piece of string....? How I determined the size requirement for me (one car garage + storage): - drew a shell of a garage - drew storage - googled sizes / types from bunnings / storage space (0.6m) one side, 0.9m other side - found the width of the car I was interested in (1.9m), plus worked out the width with drivers side door opened (+0.9m) - worked out the other storage requirements (kayak 0.9, motorbike 1m etc.) Did the same exercise for length... Thought about the height of the door (needed minimum 2.4 due to kayak on top of roofrack). Note the height if door and garage are different - door determine what you can store Ended up with 6.5m wide x 6m long x 2.7m high garage. If you are serious about a boat, a 5.4m boat will need 8m length, 3.0 opening height (assuming bimini), And 3m width Re: Garage size questions 5May 13, 2021 2:06 pm We have 6.5 deep x 6 wide and is great storage along back wall. Re: Garage size questions 6May 13, 2021 5:32 pm Go as wide as your wallet/lot allows, and at least 6m long. You want people to be able to park reasonably sized SUV in there, and if you don't own one it would be extra storage space for you. Our current one is 5.9 x 5.9, with the new house we're going 6x6, plus some dedicated extra space for a workbench at the back. Re: Garage size questions 8Sep 07, 2022 12:38 pm make the garage as big as possible...if you park two cars side by side allowing for doors to open and people to get in and out carrying groceries etc and be able to walk around all sides you will find that 6m x 6m is minimum for comfort and if you want to add a big tall car with roof racks etc you need more space and standard roller doors are never tall enough...build to suit the size of what you need to store ...we have 8m wide by 7m deep with a taller roller door and that allows enough space for benches/storage along both sides and roller door access to the back garden (we included a TV and storage for fold up furniture so the garage can also be used for a wet weather playroom and entertaining space) Dear Members I have to decide the Facade column size. My custom builder standard is 350mm with rendering, but i asked for 470mm plus stone or tiles and yet to get… 0 7497 All sorted guys. Just needed to buy a blade with the correct bush. Dunno how to delete this post, can't find any help file. Cheers. 1 3664 Current door width is approx 2700, looking to have double doors fitted 820-820. What size does the frame need to be before door jamb? Thanks 0 3548 |
