Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 05, 2021 9:46 pm Looking for advice here. We purchased a block of land in a new estate in October last year. The land is yet to title. In February this year, the developer got into a dispute with the gas distributor and refused to pay the $4m they were asking for, so now there will be no gas supplied to the estate. I’ve already signed a building contract and the builders have come back with two options, one with 6 small heaters and the second with proper heating equivalent to gas. The costs are $4,300 and $13,085 respectively. The developers are offering me $4000 in compensation but this is way way below the actual amount I’m going to have to pay to heat the house in cold wintry Melbourne properly. I’ve tried asking the developers to cover the costs as they previously promised, as they did not disclose the lack of gas before we purchased lot but have heard nothing. Any thoughts on what my options are? Any advice will be much appreciated. Now: Building another new home Settlement: 8 July 2021 Construction due to start: In two months Re: Redstone (Sunbury, Vic) 2May 05, 2021 11:08 pm Having no gas connection is a blessing in disguise. Opt for an all electric build to not only future proof your house but reduce overall running costs and positively contribute to the environment. For an all electric build go for: 1. 3 phase power 2. Induction cooktop 3. Ducted refridgerated aircon/multiple split system 4. Sanden heat pump hot water system 5. Solar panels This will save you gas running costs in the long term. Gas is expensive nowadays and there is no better time to transition to all electric than during a new build. Happy to discuss in further detail. Re: Redstone (Sunbury, Vic) 3May 06, 2021 9:05 am Agree. We only used the gas for the fireplace on the winter days. In return we have to pay for a connection fee through out the year. 4 29218 Hi, For what it’s worth, best getting as many quotes as possible. Send out emails / phone calls..
