There wasn't that much that they took out of the house other than the hot water system, copper pipes and some doors. Our internals were not very good, the kitchen was terrible and so was the bathroom, so we didn't have much to sell anyway. We now have a blog. http://allaboutthebuild.blogspot.com/ Re: Knocking Down Costs - Can we sell anything to get some back? 4Oct 12, 2008 7:54 pm ![]() i've heard that the demolition guys' quote is based on them recovering stuff before demolishing, though - maybe other forum members could comment on this You are spot on. Demolition contractors take into consideration salvagable materials and they price the job accordingly. If you were to sell salvagable materials on ebay or to a salvage yard, expect to pay more for the demolition work. Re: Knocking Down Costs - Can we sell anything to get some back? 5Oct 12, 2008 8:03 pm Hi dflaks,
We sold the old split aircon system, gas hot water unit, oven & some miscellanious wood. We posted the electricals on Ebay & stated that buyer must remove. We posted a demolition sale notice on Trading Post & stated that everything was for sale. The demolition sale was a waste of time, but the eBay items fetched a fantastic price. Good luck with the demo & build ! We are loving living in our new home ! https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.p ... &start=315 Re: Knocking Down Costs - Can we sell anything to get some back? 6Oct 14, 2008 4:51 pm Hi,
Have you considered selling the house? Is it suitable for relocation? My cousin has previously purchased three houses through the paper that were set for demolition, relocated them to vacant land, did the house up and sold them. This way you would save the demolition costs and may get something small towards the house. Re: Knocking Down Costs - Can we sell anything to get some back? 7Oct 14, 2008 5:05 pm Ebay is your friend.
If suitable, I would list the whole house ... with the buyer to remove by a certain date. If you really do want to get it demolished then ebay is also a good place to sell what you want to salvage. If you aren't sure what is worth salvaging then ask someone who may be more familiar with pricing of second hand building materials. What looks like junk to you may be someone else's gold! Re: Knocking Down Costs - Can we sell anything to get some back? 8Oct 15, 2008 6:05 am Thanks for the replies everyone. House could be relocated being a timber frame, cladded house on piers but not sure how the y would truck it out. Being Ku-ring-gai and with a few big trees on the nature strip I just don't see how they could get the house out!
But the ebay idea sounds ok. Thanks again. Re: Knocking Down Costs - Can we sell anything to get some back? 9Oct 15, 2008 8:26 pm Hi dflaks. Just wanted to welcome another building in Ku-ring-gai. It doesn't sound like you'll get the house out without damaging/removing the trees. Might be better to sell the bits.
