Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 30, 2021 6:54 am Hello all, My estimate for a 49sq (457m2) draft floor plan that has 5 bedroom requires roughly 31,000 bricks... I have yet to subtract out the windows but I can't imagine it will make a major difference in the number of bricks. This is a one storey house design and so I can't help to think I've done something wrong. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Re: Am I doing it right? This is a one storey house design and so I can't help to think I've done something wrong. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! MorrisOakes I think your calculations could be wrong. we allow 50 bricks per sqm of actual wall area ( commons and face) so if you are doing double brick and the total for all walls is 457sqm then allow 23,000. I wouldn't delete the windows as you will need wastage and we find that a good rule of thumb is just to use the gross areas of the walls rather than delete the windows and add 10%. Also, don't forget to allow for sand, cement and lintels Do the same with tiling, just use your gross walls and you will find it should work out well. Although just re-reading your post, I might have misunderstood your question. Are you saying that the floor area is 457sqm? if so from experience a house of that size generally has a more wall area and if you are double bricking only the exterior walls you could be looking at close to 46,000 bricks, and more obviously if are doing internals as well. cheers Simeon Simeon McGovern Affordable Custom Homes, We design and build to your budget Ashington Homes www.ashingtonhomes.com.au Re: Am I doing it right? There is a huge difference when it comes to Data, Proofs, compliance and Estimations Engineering Bim can estimate Bricks, brick Lintels, Window opening, brick piers , brick sizes changes, etc The latter (AB) is a sales presentation tool imo unreliable for Engineering/Construction tho great for gaming and walkthroughs. Here Ist Stage Quantities Brickwork OT, changing bricks is a money spinner for builders/trades, just have a look at variation costs for different elevation changes Cheers Chris Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs The DIY project can be broken into two major steps.
