Re: is balcony(to be a green space with lots of plants) poss 2Mar 10, 2021 5:43 pm You'll need an engineered suspended concrete slab on Steel Columns ie Typical column and beam/slab construction, the timber stud frames adds nothing structural... Its a fraction of the cost of a suspended slab https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Voe8wjHYNs There are also other light weight options available such as Hebel Powerfloor etc PM me if you need more information Cheers S Simeon McGovern Affordable Custom Homes, We design and build to your budget Ashington Homes www.ashingtonhomes.com.au Re: is balcony(to be a green space with lots of plants) poss 5Mar 10, 2021 8:22 pm Hebel powerfloor surely you jest... LOL, yet another product that couldn't crack the WA market material cost comparisons Concrete $200/m3 + temp. formwork costs hebel powerfloor $900/m3 + permanent structural beams costs Just curious where is the engineering and cost savings? Its made here in Gosford and we dont pay anything near that. BTW our concrete costs are a lot more expensive then yours circa $350-400/sqm for suspended. I would imagine Melbourne and Adelaide also have different rates. Yep its hard to compare between states. What works over your way doesn't necessarily work over here and vice versa. So its hard to judge or be critical. IMO, Only because they make it hard for you to compare I look at it this way any building material that requires further manufacturing and transportation adds 4-5 times the base material cost I'd rather pay the guys more on site to manufacture and erect. tho not always suitable for all jobs Cheers Chris Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Re: is balcony(to be a green space with lots of plants) poss 8Mar 11, 2021 5:21 am StructuralBIMGuy SejaeD Yep its hard to compare between states. It's old school but hey there are still Roman buildings standing after 2000 years and all that concrete was formed and poured on site! I come from a background of building hundreds of warehouses where we formed and poured all our own panels on site to control quality rather then relying on precast panels built in a factory. The only problem with our way of thinking is that not everyone can afford to build this way, and sometimes some materials are cheaper from the mass produced factory, so we have to be pragmatic to peoples budgets. We are using Hebel a bit at the moment as it's cheap and in Sydney and with land prices being so high we are finding that customer's budgets are tight. If installed correctly its not a bad product but would I choose it over rendered brick, absolutely not if money were no object.
