Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 06, 2021 7:37 pm Hi there, I'm wondering if anyone does this or if this is something that is recommended? I'm building my first home and I've already chosen my builder who will be able to help me design my home. But I wanted to know if I should or can pay an architect to have a look at the plan and let me know any improvements that can be made? Does anyone know how much this would cost? Given the architect would not be starting from scratch as such? Any information would be awesome. Thanks! Re: Independent architect to look at floor plan 2Mar 07, 2021 10:32 am Shortly before what Rawson call the Plans Presentation Meeting (which is the last chance to make structural changes without admin and redraw penalty fees) we had an onsite review of the plans with Jennifer Crawford from https://www.ournewhomecoach.com.au/ This is one of the best things we did throughout the house project. We're building a heavily modified Rawson Balmoral and had accumulated a half dozen or so issues that we really didn't know what to do about and were generally feeling unsure about the whole thing. As luck would have it we went to the HIA home show who were offering free 15 minute one on one sessions with architects, bathroom experts and builders. We booked a session with each of these experts and were so impressed with the advice from Jennifer that we got a business card from her and arranged for a 2 hour on site plans review. In that two hours all of our issues were resolved, an even larger number of issues we hadn't even thought of were identified/resolved and we were left feeling much surer of what we were doing. The advantage of doing this on site was immediately apparent as Jennifer could also evaluate our block of land and the surrounding properties and trees. I can't recall the exact price, something like $600 perhaps. We wouldn't hesitate to do it again and simply can't recommend Jennifer Crawford highly enough. What a wonderful idea for her to start a business doing this. This sounds really perfect! Do you know where she is based? I don't do so well with non face to face meetings. Re: Independent architect to look at floor plan 4Mar 07, 2021 8:10 pm Jennifer is based in Sydney, which suited us as so are we. I just noticed that if you click the "book session" button at the top right hand side of her website you can see the different types of standard consultations available, and if you click on any one of them the price is stated (which seems to range from $70 to $950). In my opinion an onsite consultation is better, but they're also available via Zoom. Hopefully I'll be able to find someone in Brisbane who does the same thing. Thank you for all your help!
