Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 03, 2021 11:33 am Hi all This is my first post in the forum. I tried to find more information about the 3 phase power and if it is necessary or not. Looking at the forum and other places, I found some conflicting information. I am building with Celebration Homes at WA, a house with 189sqm. In the house I am in, the lights flicker every time the AC turns the motor on. I imagine this would have some impact on the durability of my appliances. Would the 3 phase be recommended over the single one? I will use some smart home things and have ducted AC for the whole house. Any help on this would be appreciated. Nothing in what you have described requires 3 phase power. 3 phase power will allow you to get very large ducted AC systems (24kW+) however that will be overkill since your house will be 189sqm. In having said that, the cost of adding 3 phase power during the build is a small sum compared to what it would cost to add later on. You might not have use for it now but consider maybe the possibility of adding a fast charger for a future electric car. Also with 3 phase power, you're not limited to the 5kW export limit of solar power (assuming you get FIT in your state and will be getting solar PV). Re: Would 3 phase power be necessary 3Mar 03, 2021 12:57 pm Are you planning on getting solar panels in the future? I'll be getting 3 phase simply because it greatly increases the amount you can feed back into the grid. It's overkill for most residential properties unless you have a workshop or something, however the cost in minimal for a new build so it's worth considering for future proofing. P.S. In the not-too-distant future we'll all have electric car chargers in our garages. So something to consider. Currently renovating, and our main lounge is 5m x 10m, with a cathedral roof peaking at 6.5m high. Currently have tiles on concrete slab. Room is very hard to heat.
