Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 05, 2021 12:27 am I am building with SJD Homes in south east Melbourne and unfortunately they did not install any physical termite barrier (sheets) between the slab and the frame. Is that acceptable? This is quite a surprise for me as I haven't seen any new house being build without the physical termite barrier nowadays. When I've asked my building supervisor, he mentioned that they didn't use the physical barrier but will spray the bottom part of the timber frame for the protection. Then I did a bit of research and found that the spray thing only last for 5-8 years whereas the termite barrier will last for 50 years and will stop termite to gain the entry. I am really upset as I don't want to put my house on risk in near future. The builder has just completed the frame walls. Is there a possibility to do something now to install those sheets? or is there any other solution? or should I push my builder to remove the frame and install the termite barrier sheet and then reinstall the frame? Please advise what should I do or it is ok to have just the spray? Is there any Australian standard where the termite barrier is a requirement for the builder that I can use as a reference when I talk to the builder? any advise will be much appreciated Read my first home build journey by clicking the following link Building with SJD Homes in 2020 - Charleston 310 Customised Re: No Physical Termite Barrier By My Builder Is that Accept 2Feb 05, 2021 5:34 am murtaza.sh I am building with SJD Homes in south east Melbourne and unfortunately they did not install any physical termite barrier (sheets) between the slab and the frame. Normally builders will specify the type of termite treatment in the specification. Sometimes the Building permit will also come with a clause for the Termite Treatment. I think it is mentioned as Part A or Part B treatment. Hi, I had a barrier reef pool installed less that 2 years ago and the gel coat is already fading.
