Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 27, 2021 9:42 pm Hi all, Would be grateful for any help from anyone with experience with this kind of issue. Ours is a battle axe block with a house at the front (separate title). We found out that our block never had stormwater connected when it was subdivided back in the 80s. We purchased our place in 2006. We are now looking to KDRB and the council wants us to organise the stormwater. The legal point of discharge is one house over and to the back. And because we are the rear of a dual occ we need to build pits and connect stormwater for the front house, run it down our driveway (another pit) then two more barrel pits going over our next door neighbour’s land (picking up their stormwater) and through to the back to the yard of the house behind them. This is well in excess of the usual stormwater connection the builder usually does and we have had quotes from $20k to $35k to do this. It’s a condition of the permit so the builder won’t apply for the building permit until this is all ready to go. What I am wondering is, should the council be doing any of this? I’m wondering why I am connecting stormwater for two houses other than my own. Is it just something I will have to accept and do if I want to build? Any thoughts/suggestions? Plumbers 'can be' plumbers, made all the worse by self certification which the building surveyor invariably accepts as proof of compliance!
