Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 26, 2021 6:46 am I am in Tasmania and trying to decide on a red/ brown brick with cladding around garage. The only thing that is decided is Monument roof with monument Windows. Any ideas? Here are pictures of what the facade will be and just a play with a few different colours. I like a dark charcoal colour for the roof rather than black. Do you think monument would achieve that? No there aren’t any new houses around us. The houses around us vary a bit in age but I’d say mostly traditional brick homes. Re: Help on brick with cladding please 4Jan 27, 2021 1:02 pm I like the red brick/timber/black highights combo. This works well with flat roofs or skillion where you can't really see the material. Like Berek said, the dark roof won't look as black as the drawings, but I think it could still be okay. Re: Help on brick with cladding please 5Jan 27, 2021 5:28 pm Thanks stonesthrow. I would have liked to have a flat roof but my husband didn’t like it so we are going with this one. My drawings are just to get a rough idea on different colour options. This is the first time we are building and finding the decisions of the facade tricky. Re: Help on brick with cladding please 7Jan 27, 2021 6:27 pm Yes that sounds good. We also had an idea to do timber cladding around the garage and front door with monument garage door? Think we have decided to go with Daniel Robertson Hawthorn red bricks but not sure what colour mortar. Re: Help on brick with cladding please 8Apr 10, 2021 2:23 pm Hi, I'm also using DR Hawthorn Red. This brick doesn't look good with a sandy yellow mortar so we chose off white. Would have loved my builder to use Mortex which is a white that DR sells. The off white should be fine. We are also going for flush mortar. Have you thought of the colour Barramundi for the roof, it's not a solid black and a tiny bit softer. I also changed from Monument Roof to Barramundi as it ties in better with the Hawthorn Red bricks. Good luck with your project and I hope this helps.
