Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 15, 2021 9:48 pm We're building our first home in QLD and we're really keen to have grey bricks. We first chose PGH driftwood but when I saw it in an actual house, it was too light. Has anyone used Austral Grey Gum bricks for their build? Would really love some photos and input. We're building with CJ Homes and they only use Austral and PGH bricks in limited range. Re: Which Grey Brick? 2Apr 13, 2021 12:42 pm I have not built yet, but decided on using Austral Grey Gum after looking at recent houses / delivered bricks from Austral in our area. At my local Austral showroom, they looked a medium to dark solid grey. In reality, on recently built houses, I can confirm that while the surface colour is grey, the base brick is brown (as opposed to orange), and in the houses I saw across the weekend, this brown really showed through (which I was actually looking for). My interpretation of them is a medium 'greige', although at times, some bricks throw a darker brown colour, rather than light brown - that could be particular light shining on the walls, or lack of. I'm in the ACT area, so depending on where you are, that could also have an effect on the eventual colour of the brick - i.e. where they're manufactured. Unfortunately, I took some photos for my own reference, but they weren't my houses + not sure how to post pics here yet. Not sure if you can access PGH Dark and Stormy with CJ Homes, but their Whirlwind has a nice variation in the dark grey range as well, which is the other brick I was considering to achieve the same effect. Unfortunately, most of the addresses PGH provided for a look-see were an hour's drive away, and I was happy with the Austral. Anthony Firstly, wow you have put a lot of work into your list of questions! Great job and they are mostly valid questions that a builder should be able to answer.
