Building A New House
Jan 14, 2021 7:46 pm
I'm hoping someone can assist me, im looking to get an understanding in the costs relating to upgrading internals of the home. Im at the point where i've made all structural changes (doors, windows, facade, ceiling heights, moving walls etc) and now we have an appointment for the internals.
The issue is I made quite a number of structural changes to the home and gone a little over budget there so need to ensure I dont go over budget on the internals.
For example, going from 'standard bricks to INDUSTRIAL CHAR' colouring
or moving from standing ceasarstone to FROSTY CARRINA
I can see the big things being:
- Changing external brick colours
- Changing Roof tiles (not so wavey)
- Changing benchtop colours
- Changing wardrobe heights
- Changing from tiles to timber laminate floor
Does anyone have an idea on what to budget for these sort of items? or overall budget for the colours and fittings component?

I dont know who you’re building with, but if its a project builder, it’s likely the upgrades will be expensive.
For example a slab of frosty carina is double the cost of a standard bench top, approx $1500 extra per slab, say you need 3 slabs for your kitchen that’s $4500, add on builders margin and you’ll be close $5-6k for the upgrade. Same with bricks, say your brick is double the cost of standard bricks, that’s likely going to cost $5-$10k.
This is all in theory, as I’ve no idea how big your home is, who you are building with etc...
Tiles will be another big expense, do you want nice 600x600 rectified edge tiles?? Well that will cost $$$
Electrical upgrades usually another $5-20k
This is all based on project builders.
We recently built and my son did the electrical, adding in a PowerPoint cost me about $6, project builders runs round $100 for an additional point.
