Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 12, 2021 9:45 am I looked into this as a part of trying to make my garage less hot in summer. Was never offered the rubber option, only the brush option, so we went with the brush. Surprisingly it made the garage almost totally air tight. We have our manhole in the garage ceiling and prior to the seal installation if it was windy the garage would pressurize and the manhole cover would flap. Now no movement at all even when very windy outside. Garage is also now very dark with the door closed so need to turn on the light even during the brightest day Made no discernible difference to temperatures in summer though. Re: Seals for garage doors 2Jan 13, 2021 9:35 am Have experimented with door insulation as well. Interestingly enough we found that double sided foil air bubble insulation was just as effective, a lot lighter and a bit cheaper than the 25mm insulation batts that seem to be the recommended choice. Re: Seals for garage doors 3Jan 14, 2021 9:33 am It's the same sort of stuff that you use inside a car as a windscreen sun shade. Can be bought by the metre in the big green shed. If your garage door is a standard sectional the back of it will be divided into sections by the vertical and horizontal bracing. Cut to fit so it is locked in under the bracing See the link below GARAGE DOORS HEAVY DUTY DOUBLE SILVER FOIL DOOR BUBBLE INSULATION 30m2 DIY | eBay Re: Seals for garage doors 7Mar 04, 2021 11:22 pm I have the B&D Icon which comes with rubber seals all round. We are at the top off the street and occasionally get the hot and dusty westerly winds blowing directly onto the front of the house. The seals on the side and bottom are great, but the top seal is failing to press against the lintel beam to create the seal. The result is alot of buiding dust (new estate) gets in. Any suggestions how to tackle it? I’m restoring all my 40yr old windows and I want to install seals around the casements. I’ve sanded back and oiled the frames with sikkens. My plan is to box up inside… 0 6515 It's a classic case of aesthetics subjugating function where style takes precedence over practicality. 3 3944 |
