Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 29, 2020 3:09 pm Wondering if it’s possible to put in bathroom with drainage on top of slab and exit via external wall rather than plumbing through and under slab? Thanks Re: No plumbing in slab 2Dec 29, 2020 3:34 pm Are you talking about a simple vanity or everything including floor wastes? You can install a vanity by fitting waste pipe through exterior wall and doing the connection external but you have to cut floor wastes through the slab. Would a raised floor above slab work to allow floor waste drainage? Re: No plumbing in slab 4Dec 29, 2020 3:58 pm You could build a false floor but you would be raising the floor approximately 250-300mm to allow for the required trap. You might be able to squeeze it down if you use a P trap for the toilet and a compact gully but do you really want a step in your bathroom? Would a raised floor above slab work to allow floor waste drainage? You need to achieve something like this. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like I mentioned you may be able to use a compact trap or even put the trap external (I'm not a plumber so not sure of the exact laws around that) I do bathroom renovations and would never consider using a raised floor for the plumbing. If you are going to do a job it's worth doing it properly. Putting in a false floor is a recipe for a rather unusual looking renovation that will more than likely cost you in the long run, even if that is just resale down the track. Thank you Chippy Re: No plumbing in slab 7Dec 29, 2020 4:34 pm Yeah, not sure if that was the take away from what I was trying to say but I guess only you know your unique circumstances and can make that call. All the best. And as with the drainage, the bathroom/wet areas are required to have a floor waste which will have a minimum riser height to allow proper drainage while in use. The only way around this is if the floor falls towards a doorway which opens to the outside of the property. This is to ensure water flows somewhere that will not cause damage to the house. This setup can be found in some laundries but I rarely see this and is generally only found in older homes.
