Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 27, 2020 11:34 pm As a result of a long and sorry tale of woe, I would really like someone to tell me how many sqm of tiles I need for these ensuites...the tiles will be 600mm x 600mm if that makes a difference. AND in ensuite 2 I am having tiling to 1.2m, not the 2.1m indicated (except in the shower of course). The tile will be the same on the wall and floor. I have really no idea how to calculate this but I had a rough crack and came to 45sqm...and was going to add 10% for breakage so about 50sqm - but I suspect that is way undercooked... E2 is a bit more but don’t have time to do it for you right now. Hope that helps and do make sure you validate my calcs as they could have some errors in there. Re: Can some clever tiler please tell me how many tiles I ne 3Dec 28, 2020 8:11 am I think where you are going wrong, is you need to allow a tile for each cut, so where you have skirting tile of 0.16sqm, which you’ve calculated at 0.5 tile, you need a full tile for each so you will need two tiles, some tilers may cut each side of the tile, and try and get two cuts out of it, but generally they will allow for a new tile. The same goes for all your cuts. Our tile shop calculated everything for us, we have some spares, but not a lot. It does depend on pattern etc but if it was a uniform cut then I think the calcs are reasonably close. The OP did say he/she was going to add 10% spare tiles so I think that should cover. Re: Can some clever tiler please tell me how many tiles I ne 5Dec 28, 2020 12:27 pm For ensuite 2 have rounded up to the nearest tile. As the poster before states that you may require additional tiles to get the right fit. I calculated about 60 tiles. Which brings your total to about 120 tiles in total or about 40sqm. The algorithms automate and optimise laying while minimising waste OT Builders, tile suppliers and tilers aren't interested in saving you money... Increasing waste increases their profit. The tiles are actually random patterns (in a pack of 3 random patterns) and as they are 60cm x 60cm I would hope that they could get at least two skirting tiles out of 1 tile! I think I'll get 50sqm to allow for breakage and cross my fingers! Thanks again! Re: Can some clever tiler please tell me how many tiles I ne 8Dec 29, 2020 3:27 pm I know with my recent build, they were a bit short for the alfresco splashback, the tiler, said he will try and use the offcuts, however he couldn’t guarantee it, you would have to ask the tiler to specifically use both sides of the tile. Regardless of wall hung toilet or floor pan toilet your feet will be right on drain, seems to me the waste should not be in that location given the design.
