I suppose it was in the back of my mind after another well respected builder said to me to avoid them as the company was having troubles and that the build might not be completed.
Overheard the second conversation in a display home between two employees. They were complaining about the company and said that it will may become evident in a few months when everything goes ‘pear shaped’.

BGC is WA's biggest residential builder and has 8 sub companies.
As WA's biggest builder unless their customers are self financing then there's obviously a lot of banks etc willing to lend people money to build with them.
I think there'd be more than whispers if they were going under.

Most builders are flat out right now due to low interest rates and Government handouts. I suspect a few of them will end up with bad reputations due to;
1. Using poorly skilled trades because they can't access good ones or are unwilling to pay for good ones
2. Not delivering on time

There is a Facebook site that I don’t think I am allowed to mention on here (but it’s title is a synonym of bad beginning in s) that continuously mentions that group. Some of the posts are from people with ridiculous expectations, in my view unfairly critical, but there are nonetheless overwhelming numbers in relation to that builder. If I had to guess I would say 9/10 of the complaints relate to that builder.

Same for us. We ended up signing with them after being reassured by the sales consultant that place would be finished within contracted timeframes. Approached the company in Oct 2020. We were told they were signing no more contracts before the grant cut-off, so we signed our PWA in Dec 2020 and contract in March 2021. Slab in late Aug 2021. Bricks were onsite for 3 months before we were told we could arrange our own brickies. We paid a bonus $3,000 to a brickie team to get them onsite in Jan- otherwise we were looking at April/May (or later) before bricks would be laid. There was an issue with our plans. The brickies did a fantastic job, but they had to knock down parts and rebuild due to issues with wrong doors being ordered and incorrect tech drawings. Bricks didn't finish until March 2022. We've also organised our own roof carpenter (another bonus we are paying of at least $1,000-$2,000). Parts of the timber arrived onsite over three weeks ago. Tried contacting BGC a few times a week via email and phone. Left multiple messages and emails, but no response from BGC about when we can arrange for our roof carpenter to start. Meanwhile, paying rent and bills where we are, plus hundreds per week on the interest/rates/utilities for the block (like everyone else in the same boat). The worst part is the interest only construction loan. We were told during our brick meeting with site supervisor back in Feb that they couldn't tell us when the place would be finished and we would get extensions of time for every stage of the build. We raised another issue with the plans (window put in the wrong place on the plans) and were told we would 'learn to live with it'. By that stage, we didn't even want it fixed, as it would cause more delays, we brought it up to confirm that our plans would be correct moving forward. I feel bad for all the people that works for them, as I can imagine they are baring the brunt of everyone's frustration. Seems that management signed on too many contracts and now they can't deliver.
