Hi everyone,
We're in the process of planing a knockdown and rebuild. My elderly parents can no longer keep up with their home and so we have made the decision for them to move in with us with the new build.
We are having issues with planning for two kitchens as it is our wish to have their 'unit' be a part of the whole structure and not a temporary 'granny flat' away from the house. Council's view is that once there are two 'dwellings', we'd need to sub-divide, which is not possible in our block. Planning a second kitchen is what constitutes the second dwelling from their view.
Curious if anyone else has had this issue and if there were any creative solutions to the problem? Or if any other builders/designers could offer a fresh perspective? I'm quite frustrated that the ocuncil is completely okay with us building an entire, separate flat, but not okay with having a comfortable, joined area of a house for my parents who will need my fmaily nearby for care as the years go on! Would appreciate any insight/help! TIA
