Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 14, 2020 12:36 pm Hi everyone, My new house has begun construction and the brickwork is going up. I had a look on site and quite a few of the bricks are discoloured. The bricks will not be rendered so i'm a little worried. The bricks are Austral bricks - Esperance. Anyone have the same issue? Can this be rectified easily? From doing abit of research i'm assuming its from Iron Oxide? Re: Discolour on new brickwork 4Dec 14, 2020 7:06 pm I think that is vanadium staining - that should clean off with the right process. Google def -"Vanadium stains are a yellow-green harmless discolouration on the face of a clay product, which can occur especially in light coloured clay products. Acid cleaning prior to treating vanadium stains can result in the stain becoming more unsightly and more difficult to remove." Light bricks are at risk of this And dark bricks are at risk of efflorescence stains Re: Discolour on new brickwork 5Dec 16, 2020 5:32 pm Hi Daniel81991, My build has the same brick and staining currently, the site supervisor has said its a common reaction with the clay and the best thing to do is spray it with a bleach (he named a particular one however it has slipped my mind). The bleach will kill off the reaction Re: Discolour on new brickwork 6Dec 16, 2020 8:14 pm I would suggest you await your SS to take care of it - don't do anything that will possibly mean you are made responsible for it. Just keep taking lots of photos. I am in the same situation, would you be able to give some insights in to this? I am in SA 8 17047 I wanted to get some thoughts on the quality of workmanship on the following brickwork? are there specific clauses in Australian Standards which relate… 0 4805 |
