Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 07, 2020 12:08 am Hi everyone, We are building a double story house in Sydney. We have fibre cement weatherboards as the external walls on the first floor. The builder's standard method of installation for weatherboards is direct fix. We aren't sure if direct fix is the best method or it is just an easy/cost-effective way that the builder prefers. Does anyone know which installation method is better (direct fix or cavity battens) and why? Also, for improving the sound insulation of the wall system the builder has proposed the following wall system (from inside to outside). Timber framing (with R2.5 batts), HardieWrap (vapour permeable barrier), HardieFlex (6mm fibre cement sheet), battens and Linea weatherboard. Does anyone see any problem with the above wall system? (e.g. condensation, moisture trap, being prone to mould)? There is no gap between HardieWrap and HardieFlex, does it negatively impact the performance of the vapour permeable barrier (HardieWrap)? Thanks in advance The code says the sheet needs to be fixed into a timber or metal batten located at certain spacings to meet the wind conditions for the area, uplift etc. If it doesn't do… 2 8827 ![]() Unless there were unforeseeable issues with the site, I dont think you should have to pay for contractors errors or poor planning.
