Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 03, 2020 12:44 pm Hi everyone, We documented our old build for ourselves, maybe to give iothers ideas, to share, learn from each other, to maintain enthusiasm and to share an experience that is often not appreciate by others unless they themselves are interested in building or going through the process. We are building with ADH - who we built with before - we were very very happy with our previous house and build and have been even happier through the process again to where we are now, about to go to site!. They are building us a fully custom house. This is our third build - on a wide slightly odd shaped almost square block. Our last house was large (to us) and we have downsized by about 45sqm to 316sqm and tried to keep the things we loved about our old house. Our old house was very energy efficient and comfortable to live in due to a its long axis being north. This land does not allow for that. We have tried to achieve it by angling the house on the block - the living room side faces north. We had a few hiccups because there was a big tree onsite that we did not realise we could remove (and didn't really want to remove) so originally we worked to cater for the tree. Then found out it had dropped large limbs and then found out during the process of figuring out how to make it safer (trimming) that we could remove it. Removing it meant a very different design was possible. It was removed a while back and it was lucky it was as it was found to be quite diseased. I do love mid century houses and we played with different roof styles but for us in terms of practicality and cost (spend and not overcapitalising) - a hip and valley roof worked best for us with a lower angle at 17.5 degrees and larger eaves of 700mm all around (plus the gutter of another 150mm so total about 800-850mm wide). So here is the latest plan - will add colours we have selected : ) . Looking forward to 2021 for so many reasons. Earth Child (Wattyl) Eaves Large Mosman Gutters Littlehampton Coachhouse Brick with white mortar - we liked the variation of the brick and the company. There will be black windows and vertical boards and render on the facade n the New Black (Wattyl colour) or in Dulux Domino and a Matt monument smooth finish garage door. We have no alfresco but will be having a Black Shade Runner on the north side of the house which we had previously - allows for the north sun in winter. The front door will be a wide 1200 plain timber door in a walnut like colour with black door hardware. Here are our colours and some houses I love the look of that our house will look nothing like in design : ( but trying to channel the simple schemes) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: New Build Adelaide 3Dec 09, 2020 8:25 pm This is going to be amazing. First house I've seen where the kitchen has a view to the front. Great way to see deliveries and visitors. Fab idea. https://thomasarcherbuild.blogspot.com/p/blog-page.html - Thomas Archer Homes - Custom Nouveau 41 Re: New Build Adelaide 4Dec 10, 2020 5:38 am Blacktea2sugars This is going to be amazing. That so nice to hear from you especially someone with such a gorgeous house - saw your dining room - amazing! We thought because it was quite deep we would have a window for light and also see whats going on on the outside. You have spurred me on to put my kitchen colours up. x Re: New Build Adelaide 5Dec 10, 2020 5:53 am Our dunny is onsite..... on our last build when it appeared the kids and I went a bit crazy with excitement - the loo is the sign something is about to happen (sad but true) this time there was less hand waving and screaming. The builder is planning for us to be slabbed mid Jan - this is pretty exciting. Thought I would post my kitchen colours - our inspiration was our last kitchen - black and white no overheads just floating shelves. No built in fridge....didnt have one last time either....maybe next time. Our choices - Polytec classic white with white lip pulls. Laminex Black in Nuance finish with black lip pulls. Black Fisher paykel appliances- have used F&P in last two builds - lovely looking and reliable appliances except have always had Bosch Dishwashers doing the same again. Smartstone Santorini stone 60mm on the island and 20mm on all the rest of the benches. A slumped handmade look black long subway 600x75 tile laid in a stack pattern I think horizontally - or maybe vertically - I keep changing my mind on this. One big sink which we have always had only one sink and black tapware. The Mock up of the kitchen at the bottom has really red floors they won't be that red : ).
