Door Suggestion

Hello everyone !

I had few questions about the door for the Rumpus and if you can please help. The intent is to have flexibility to open the door and make the family & rumpus room as one big space. At the same time we can close the door of rumpus and make it a separate space.

1. Can you please advise what sort of door should I install for the Rumpus - Multi Folding or Cavity Slider.
2. The builder has confirmed they can install only 2x1020 CSD which I am not sure why its restricted. That will give us only 2040 wide opening which may not give wide opening. Any technical reason why the size is limited to only 2x1020 ? The widest door available is 1200.
3. Is it possible to install the door after handover ? Are their any concerns with this doing after handover ? If its possible then what provision should be made ?

A cavity slider has to slide somewhere. So that's why it's limited to that size. If you want a wider opening you will won't be able to do a cavity slider due to the nature of how your walls are set up.

You could install the door after handover if you wanted but if you want to do cavity sliders it would be a lot easier to do it during the build.

We aren't sure if we want doors or not for our theatre room so what we've done is had the builder do a square set entrance that is 1800 wide. So gives us the option to easily put in some kind of doors post handover if wanted.

Also any suggestion of the width of the square set entrance or is there a standard width for such entrances.

Depends on what you the rooms to work. Do you want the doors open most of the time and closed only occasionally? Our theatre room the wall the entrance is on is 4000 so we went with 1800 as it was a nice balance. Our room opens to a hallway though so its not like it needs to be open to be part of the adjacent rooms.

Ours would be kept open most of the time and would be closed only occasionally so I think wider opening should be ok. I will check with the builder to see if they are okay to remove the door and just give an opening.

Are you planning to put the door jambs now during construction or after the handover ?

Our will be purely a square set. We still don't know if we'll put doors in so this way we can see how it feels once we move in.

And we preferred the square set over the full ceiling height opening so went with that.

We found this theatre in a display home which was 4m wide with a 1800 square set entrance which is what we based our design on.

For the Multifold door I had a look into this option - https://www.humedoors.com.au/door-systems#23

However I am not sure how it would look like for a 3.6mts width. Also I can see it is fixed from the jamb on the top only so when it is fully open can it be pushed from bottom (as it finished 20-25mm top of floor) or are there any chances it will become flimsy when fully open ?

Apologies I have not used them so not sure. Any feedback would be appreciated.
