Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 13, 2020 10:06 am Hi all We've received our site report and associated cost estimates for site preparation. The builder has estimated $4.5K for site spoil removal (from digging out trenches). I've asked for estimated volume. My question is - we're wanting to do a bunch of raised garden beds when we get to landscaping. Naturally we'd want to use good quality soil throughout and to dress it, but wondering if we're kidding ourselves thinking we can use the site spoil as a base? And is it as simple as asking the builder to dump it at the back of the block in lieu of disposal (would be well out of the way of any space they need for building). Thanks heaps Re: Keep site spoil? 2Oct 13, 2020 11:05 am You can ask. First do some calculations on the soil volume that is to be cut. Remember that will be a compacted volume so it will be a larger volume when sitting there in an uncompacted pile. Also have a look at the bore log report to get an idea of the soil types. It may or may not be soil you want to have in the garden. Re: Keep site spoil? 3Oct 13, 2020 11:35 am Phil of Sydney You can ask. First do some calculations on the soil volume that is to be cut. Just waiting on estimate volume from the builder I am not sure whether Perth has its own way of doing things in regards to this. Most of Perth has class A (sandy soil), except for some areas near rivers or hills. 2 13132 We were lucky in that our old house was so small (86 square metres) compared to the new house, they were able to take enough readings around the old backyard house before… 8 37197 |
