Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 06, 2020 1:15 pm Hey guys, I have a house plan that has a void in the family room space along the wall side as you can see in the image below. I want to build a fireplace and tv unit joinery along that wall, so it's a seamless look against the wall. However a lot of the fireplace designs I've seen usually have the fireplace feature wall go right up to the bulkhead or ceiling, however with a void space it would need to up to the ceiling of first floor which would probably be both very expensive and not really achievable. The house design will be contemporary so not really looking to make a traditional looking fireplace with a mantle, which would be one option. I attached some inspo of the look I'd like to achieve. Has anyone done something like this or have any ideas for the fireplace joinery here? I wonder if that might look odd from the 1st floor as you can see down into the family room. Maybe not but i can’t visualise it.. Re: Fireplace and TV joinery in a family room with a void? 5Oct 08, 2020 3:08 pm Nice! Is that like a cube along the wall for the chimney flue and fully open fireplace below? Re: Fireplace and TV joinery in a family room with a void? 7Oct 18, 2020 5:03 pm ppetrovski Personally I would just take the chimney all the way up to 2nd floor. It would look good in the void and draw the attention of viewers to that massive fireplace. Costs shouldn’t be too huge given it is only timber and drywall. Maybe I'm overthinking it and the simple answer is as you described, just take it to the top floor. Thanks!
