Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 29, 2020 10:20 am Hello, Posting this query here as more people view this section of the forum. We are toggling between carpet and laminate flooring for upstairs bedrooms (rumpus and hallway would be laminate). Our main concern is noise which would be produced from laminate flooring. I got a suggestion to go with Regupol 5512 5mm rubber underlay with laminate flooring (8mm planks), which would reduce the noise considerably according to a shop's sales guy. Has anyone used this underlay before? Could you please share your experience with the noise levels using this underlay or any other suggestions for laminates. Can this laminate and underlay combo noise levels be comparable with carpets, which would be our last option to go with, where the noise DB levels would be less, I believe. Thank you. Re: Underlay for laminate flooring 2Sep 29, 2020 11:22 am Do you know about the cost? I was also thinking about sound proofing our first floor. I have asked the builder to use superior underlay with mid floor insulation that's specifically designed to address noise. I thought that 'll be enough. But personally don't lived in a double storey house yet. Re: Underlay for laminate flooring 3Sep 29, 2020 12:56 pm Hi jay4542, We were told that Regupol 5512 5mm rubber underlay would cost around $15 per sq. metres, this is in Sydney though. I am asking my friends here who are living with laminate flooring upstairs but I still haven't got a definite answer about sound proofing. We might choose carpet over laminates just to reduce the noise from upstairs. Waiting for experts to share their knowledge on this. Re: Underlay for laminate flooring 4Sep 29, 2020 10:27 pm No underlay would eliminate the noise they definitely reduce them. I have laminate(10mm) flooring with Dunlop Acoustic premium underlay done by CarpetCall in Sydney. If noise is a concern go with carpet or try sound batts between the floors.
