Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 14, 2020 6:50 pm Hi everyone, Just wondering if anyone has tried supplying their own tiles to tiler and ask the tiler to install those instead of the ones we picked from builder’s supplier? Construction of the house hasnt started but we’re thinking of buying our own set of tiles that we like and ask the tiler to install it for us. Has anyone done this? Thank you. Re: Bathroom Tiles - ask tiler to install our own bought Til 2Sep 14, 2020 6:59 pm No this will not be allowed to be done, and more than likely the tiler may lose his contracts with builder. Talk to the Builder and ask them for a credit on the supply of the tiles included and give them the supplier and specs for the tiles to be installed which you want. You will have to pay n arrange the tiles but the builder may not allow this due to warranty. Also keep in mind that tile suppliers generally supply the glues n grouts to builders now so this may need to be factored into the price. If the tile size, lay or pattern in tiles could result in more cost to install from the tiler. Never go behind the Builder for things like this as it will not go good in your favour, Just talk to Builder asap Re: Bathroom Tiles - ask tiler to install our own bought Til 3Sep 14, 2020 9:36 pm Splashers No this will not be allowed to be done, and more than likely the tiler may lose his contracts with builder. Our builder wont allow us to bring anything in before handover and we made so many variations already that they wont allow us to change anything else. I guess we should stick with our selections. Re: Bathroom Tiles - ask tiler to install our own bought Til 5Sep 15, 2020 2:30 pm We elected to tile the kitchen splashback after handover. Only a small job and easy enough to find a local tiler, but we had opted for a very large format tile not offered by the builder, so had no option but to get a credit back and organise ourselves. Don’t think we would have chosen to go this way with tiling of wet areas because of warranty issues. Very risky, Re: Bathroom Tiles - ask tiler to install our own bought Til 6Sep 16, 2020 4:30 am Thank you everyone for your reply. I think we will just check with the builder if they would allow us to upgrade/change the tiling selection. But I doubt it as we’ve made so many additions after the prestart already that they say we will have to pay $1000+ for variation fee.
