I am building in SA and have hired a contractor for building retaining wall and driveway for my house... There is no contract signed between us. But I have receipts of some deposit doesn't O him against an itemised quote received..
The contractor has started work, but I am finding some issues with his work and contractor is adamnat on doing certain things in a way which don't suit me. I have hired an independent inspector and the inspector also has some concerns about the work which is in progress... Ian waiting for inspector's report and I think which will be available to tonight...and I am planning to tally O contractor tomorrow morning when he will be there at site to resume work...
What should be my action plan..
Should I first speak to contractor and handover we report to him and ask him to fall in line and if he does not agree then can I ask him to stop work and first written assurance to work as per inspector's report?
If you ask me I want to get rid of this contractor and hire someone else.
My question is can I do change contractor midway ...at the moment site prep work is midway..
There is no contract signed between us and I have paid around 40 percent deposit as per the works mentioned in quote supplied by contractor
Since there is no contract signed between us, will I still be liable for any costs to contractor OR can I ask him to deduct the amount for the work down by him and return rest to me..
For information I had itemised quote supplied by contractor and it's pretty clear from quote about the works completed so far by him...
Just need some inputs...
