Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 14, 2021 8:46 pm Hello. I have a rather small, shallow block with an exisiting 2br unit, which is quite dated. The block is 17.5 wide x 13.5m deep. The idea of a knockdown rebuild with a 2 storey is tempting but I have no idea if this is realistic/feasible given the size. I love my area and would love to stay in this spot. Suggestions/ideas welcome. Arty. Re: Extremely Shallow Block 2Aug 17, 2021 8:42 pm Might have to do an attic-style thing to get two storeys with that sort of block.There are some volume builders who do livable attics and, I would think, be able to do a custom design to fit the block. Really depends on the builders in your area . Otherwise it'd probably be the architect + small custom builder route, which will cost more. Even if anyone has, I don't imagine the plan would fully explore the potential of your land. You don't have to use an architect. A draft person would do the job, someone who is familiar with your local council building rules. I used a draft person to draw up my house plan and I used an independent builder, and my land isn't even irregular. With that sort of soil type if you ask for a design to include piers then I would also include void formers.
