Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Ventilating storage room under the stairs 3Sep 01, 2020 4:17 pm ![]() Just wondering if you actually need ventilation? We have a similar set up in our understairs and I had the same concerns. My electrician said ventilation wasn’t an issue (same electrician who set up the entire system). We’ve been in for 2 (winter) months, and while the space is slightly warmer than the rest of the house, it’s not noticeably overheated. Ideally it'll be great if I didn't need any, though I'd probably still add a grille at the bottom of the door for peace of mind. Do you have a lot of equipment in your setup? I plan to put all my network gear (router, 2x PoE switches, Synology NAS) + 1x SFF PC, 1x NUC, and a UPS. Re: Ventilating storage room under the stairs 4Sep 05, 2020 10:33 am You wouldn't even need to have any sort of grill, vent or fan in the door either. Mounting a small fan high up in that cupboard wall would vent hot air out while drawing in colder air through the gap under the door. A client of mine installed a quiet 120mm computer fan in one of his walls from his IT hub and media gear cupboard but he had his coming out into the adjacent laundry. It shifted a reasonable amount of air too. Stewie Re: Ventilating storage room under the stairs 5Sep 05, 2020 8:11 pm Have one or two fans on your server rack. That should be sufficient as your room space seems quite adequate. Just don't clutter up that room with other things as it will limit air flow. Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated!
