Do you think the kitchen is big enough without having to do this or the extra space would make it work for a study nook when kids are older or craft space for me, even a arm chair could go there as a separate space to be comfy while chatting to whoever in the kitchen and then the living room is mainly for tv viewing and kids playing? Oh also he wants to change the access to be 2 pocket doors, one either side of the kitchen hutch so there is a loop that the traffic can go. We were thinking pocket doors cos barn doors take up too much wall space. We were thinking pocket doors cos barn doors take up too much wall space. tell your husband i think it's an excellent idea and so much friendlier than a big open space but why does it need any doors at the ends of the hutch?..it could be floor to ceiling opening at either end or just a wider than usual doorway (much cheaper than cavity sliders or barn door that are in the way and i've added some furniture as that helps make more sense of any plan but my suggestions would be to take the extra space off the master bedroom and lose the wiw in favour of more storage in biw and much more comfortable ens and i've added some other ideas to consider..take space off entry to make the laundry wider to allow for a full size door between laundry and kitchen with full depth cabinets on both sides, swop biw in bed 3 to add a storage cabinet in the foyer, alternative bathroom with separate shower and a powder room with separate entry ..you mentioned when kids are older and a separate shower and toilet will be an asset for bigger kids and guests, the hinged external door in the ens should open inwards and the hinged external doors in dining and living room are a problem with furniture (inside and out) and difficult to flyscreen ..consider a sliding or wider stacking door with integral security screens for dining room and a window in the living room and, do you already have the giant dining table? i think that you'll find kids will happily work at the table as a hutch built with standard kitchen cabinet dimensions will be too high to sit at unless you make a desk height counter Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ sorry mate, not wasting more time on this.
