Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 25, 2020 1:49 pm We are embarking on a knock down rebuild (KDR) and have an existing in-ground concrete pool. The builder has advised that due to the new house being built so close to the pool they require us to have a structrual cover over the existing pool for trades to work on. I've read that you should never leave a pool empty for an extend period as it can cause structrual damage. As we are doing a knock down and rebuild, electricity will be disconnected, pool filter needs to be removed due to location etc. Can anyone recommend the best way to look after the pool during the 12mth build? Can we just leave the water in the pool for 12 mths unattended and have the pool cleaned at the end? How do you stop the pool overflowing when there is no pool filter / electricity to drain the pool? Re: How to look after existing pool during Knock Down & Rebu 3Feb 06, 2021 1:49 pm Hi jo-t, Can I ask what ended up doing? We are also about to do a KDR, and hearing different things about what to do with the pool? Hardcover and fencing, who did you go through? Thanks, LindoF Re: How to look after existing pool during Knock Down & Rebu 4Feb 06, 2021 3:52 pm Builder said we needed and full buildsafe structural cover. It's going to cost $8900 for 12mths š³ We are going to leave the water in (pool filter will disconnected as there will be no power) in a hope the pebble crete finish will survive š¤. It will need to be acid washed after. I haven't been able to find any other options. Re: How to look after existing pool during Knock Down & Rebu 5Feb 07, 2021 9:19 am Oh my gosh!!! I was not thinking it would be priced so high! Does that include fencing? Iām currently looking at different options and hopefully, can keep the cost down.
