Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Boutique Homes 961Mar 04, 2015 5:06 pm Guys I need ur advice!! We have had installed a dulux winter mushroom splashback for kitchen and paid approx $1000 extra to have it low iron! Its showing a tinge of blue. I am so annoyed and upset about it. Spoke to supervisor he said ive got what i ordered. But $1000 extra has not removed the blue tinge from glass. I have decided to write to client liason to ask what can we do? If they dont offer a solution i want my $$ back on splashback and will get it tiled after handover. Do you think i am in the right position to ask them to fix this? Re: Boutique Homes 963Mar 04, 2015 5:19 pm When we did our colour selections in sep 2013 they did not have anything to choose from. Told to choose from a dulux brochure. Its an off white grey colour. We were told pay extra and no green tinge through glass grrrrr Re: Boutique Homes 964Mar 04, 2015 7:03 pm The thing I don't get is if we cancel our contract now and loose our 1500 the house has only gone up by 3000 (I called the office to confirm the current price) If we where to sign out PWC today with the 8 months protection it would take us to Nov. So If I really want the house that's an option I could potentially consider. It's not really the road I want to have to go down. The manager never called me instead our pre start consultant emailed me saying the figure was actually an extra 7230. She's now on leave for a week and then we go to Europe for a month. I think I'll be backing looking at displays to see what we would be up for if we did in fact go elsewhere. Just over the whole process before it's even begun. Re: Boutique Homes 965Mar 04, 2015 8:12 pm Sorry to hear about your bad news Baneshouse.
We also had to pay over $2k as our developer was late on title but the house had gone up a considerable amount by then roughly $14k. Depending on how you feel that it may be better to cancel and lose the $1.5k and then re-sign at a later date. An extra $4.5k would be much better than paying an extra $7k in penalty. Our house rose by $14k in about 11months and all other builders have also increased their house prices as well. My brother built with Henley for $195k and then it was worth $225k after 13months. Boutique are very firm on their price hold period and if you exceed they will charge you just like Metricon (friend got charged $1000/month) and other builders. I hope you find a resolution. Re: Boutique Homes 966Mar 04, 2015 8:14 pm Shellzmac When we did our colour selections in sep 2013 they did not have anything to choose from. Told to choose from a dulux brochure. Its an off white grey colour. We were told pay extra and no green tinge through glass grrrrr Shellzmac I also think the reason why you'd pay an extra $1k for low iron is to have the glass clear and to have no tinges of blue/green. It would be good if you could prove to them by comparing it to a sample so that they know how much blue/green there is to the glass. I wonder if there's any way of obtaining a true sample to show them? Re: Boutique Homes 967Mar 04, 2015 9:18 pm Theon the supervisor said even though its low iron it doesnt mean it will be clear and no blue tinge. I have read online people have got what they wanted and no green/blue. So surprised Boutique had samples of splashbacks when we had to go back in last month. In 2013 they never had it so had to go by brochure. My colour not on display. All I can do is take a pic and go from there. I know that they probably wont do anything about it and just want to handover this house to get it completed. I just am so disappointed in the colour and feel $1000 wasted. I wish they would come back and say we can tile it for u or remove it and give u money back. Re: Boutique Homes 968Mar 04, 2015 9:41 pm We were told by our Prestart consultant that Low Iron equals no blue/green tinge but we had already upgraded so much that we couldn't afford it otherwise we would have chosen Low Iron because of that. I hope they can do something for you though. Re: Boutique Homes 970Mar 04, 2015 9:47 pm Pretty much Shellzmac - I chose a tan colour which seemed to hide the tinge. There were samples last year so I had gone through them all to find one that wasn't as bad. I know what you mean with the tinge though as I saw it evident with the "Clear" range. Re: Boutique Homes 972Mar 05, 2015 6:22 am From what i know of splash backs.... there is clear and low iron... clear has a green tinge that can make any colour you pic differ once placed on the clear glass... then ypu have low iron glass with the lesser green tinge this should keep any colour you pick as true as possible.. i personaly would never pick a light colour splashback as i know no matter what you will still have a slight grren tinge.. so if you do best to go with a colour that it doesnt show up in. I agree very hard as you didn't have a sample.... however i honestly dont know how far you will get as you did sign to say thats the colour you wanted.... its like changing your mind on the colour of your wall paint once it was on after picking it from a colour sample.... i think if you make any changes they will charge you for it as its a change you are making... Re: Boutique Homes 974Mar 05, 2015 6:36 am Hi baneshouse, Without giving legal advice.... a PWC is only a contract to prepare a building contract, perform pre soil testing, provide a land survey and give you a build proposal. All in al costing you $1,500, but I'm assuming costing Boutique a lot more. **Assuming that the PWC hasn't changed in the last year.... Accordingly, I think people assume that signing a PWC implies a legal obligation to build with Boutique. That said, at the end of the PWC process, before signing a Build Contract, you can tell Boutique that you don't want to continue and take your Soil test and Survey elsewhere..... Also, It seems a bit ridiculous that a builder would quote you such a larger price increase when the current price is much lower and not consider negotiating with you. Our PWC was signed in November '13 and due to planning at our local Council and errors with Boutique's drafters we were delayed 1 year and 3 months before they could start building. Although this was very stressful, we had already negotiated an extended price protection period and were able to negotiate the additional increase down as the delay was also Boutiques fault (50% reduction). (water under the bridge now...) Looking at your situation, it sounds that you love the Boutique design and it looks like some of the 'upgrades' you have made are now standard.... i.e. tin roof. I'd call your sales consultant and explain the situation as they have a vested interest in you continuing to build phase. Although you don't want to hear this, it sounds that you might be better off cancelling the Boutique contract, losing your first $1,500 deposit (assuming you don't lose your land) and re-signing with Boutique and going through the process again. From a business perspective, it sounds pretty ridiculous as I'm sure it would cost Boutique more than the $2.5k increase in house price to start from scratch! That said, it is big business! On a positive note, our build has been progressing. I'll try to post some pics later this week, but you can look at our blog which is getting updated weekly!!!!! Cheers Re: Boutique Homes 975Mar 05, 2015 6:53 am Ok shellzmac well good luck hopefully you get it resolved. I wouldn't switch for another glass splashback though as its always hard to get the true colour. Or before you pick go into a bunnings or something to see a sample. Its still hard seeing things on little samples to make a choice.... Re: Boutique Homes 978Mar 05, 2015 8:58 am Hi Baneshouse...what Szep said actually makes sense. Maybe tell them that you're thinking of canceling this contract and re starting the process again but since soil and other pre build tests are already done (covererd with the first $1500) you shouldn't have to do these again thus saving the $1500 also? Re: Boutique Homes 979Mar 05, 2015 11:11 am Thanks guys. It's such a hellish time. Our Pre start consultant has now gone on leave for a week and our original sales consultant no longer works at boutique. I emailed them last night saying pretty much that I would either cancel and resign up which would be less than the 8K they have charged me or go to another builder. We had an appointment to sign our HIA contract booked in for April I've asked this to be cancelled while we think over our next step. That I was disappointed the way in which it was being handled as we where told that even if pushed out of price lock period we would never be worse off then waiting another 6 months and signing up. Another consultant from boutique replied to my email saying our pre start consultant was on leave until the 17th of this month and that she would make sure sales manager gets in contact with me asap to discuss job moving forward. While I am in love with our home and the colours we have chosen I'm not immune to going elsewhere Re: Boutique Homes 980Mar 05, 2015 11:19 am Yea baneshouse just wait and see what they say. Would be really sad to have to go elsewhere after the time in your colour selection ect. It was a rough start for us too with staff members on leave and or changing positions ect but i honestly think things like this happen with any builder. Not only that ou r house is everything i could have dreamed of and the build process itself has not been a stress at all. I found the pre start process stressful but the important part is the dream house being built and i couldnt imagine vuilding with anyone else. Finishes are amazing. Hopefully u can get this sorted 10 16422 I would never build with Fowler homes. I built with them in 2021 and till date maintenance issues are pending.
