Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Coral Homes general build thread 8961Jul 02, 2017 1:03 pm I have a question regarding brick quality and finish. For those of you at this stage, are you happy with your bricks? We chose a lighter brick and there are a lot that have imperfections and marks on them, pics below. Some internal corners have large mortar gaps, some over 20mm and typically they are at the front door entry. Also the off white mortar seems beige but not sure if this is due to it being against the light brick as it does pop more against the darker bricks and had some mortar going grey. I don't expect them all to be perfect, but there are more defects than I was expecting. Just wanting to see if I am being overly picky or others are finding this too. We also have some cut really badly Re: Coral Homes general build thread 8963Jul 02, 2017 4:42 pm Tamara1975 kandd Hi all new to all of this, my husband and I are building the grange 23 on the NSW mid north coast. Were currently waiting for council approval and have completed our tile selection. We had our heart set on wood grain tiles which we selected (heartwood walnut) We have been told that they will only lay this a square stack and not a staggered lay!!! has anyone else come across this?? Anything we should look out for come colour selection time. Wanting to stay within the designer range!! We have just started building and have brickbond in our selection. It did cost us extra though. If they say no, I would speak directly to the tiler. Re: Coral Homes general build thread 8964Jul 02, 2017 4:44 pm tamara1975 Do you know how much extra for the brick bond ?? Quite a few people building with metricon has that same issue with bricks in corners not aligning. If they push back after you raise concerns I would flag with them that none of their display homes have brickwork that poor, and that you were told their displays were built to show the quality you could expect (that is what they say!) I stupidly forgot to measure it when I was there today and need it to start designing our ikea pax. Thanks Peeps! B R O N T E. 43 http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=79581 Thanks for your reply, I did go along to the local show village as I thought that would be good ammunition for me, but typically all the homes are render or weatherboard finished. I have the 'not to Australian standards' card up my sleeve as I'm pretty sure the nominal gap is 10mm and some are 20mm plus. Don't really want to go down that route yet tho as they are getting brickies back to grind out and redo the joints. Will see how they look after that Re: Coral Homes general build thread 8970Jul 02, 2017 9:01 pm That's very noticeable, have they suggested anything they can do? Re: Coral Homes general build thread 8971Jul 02, 2017 9:04 pm kandd @tamara1975 Do you know how much extra for the brick bond ?? We were quoted $750 by Beaumonts, wanted offset but they didn't offer it. Spoke to tiler and he said $2k for brick bond and wasn't interested in offset - suffice to say we went stacked bond and it looks great Re: Coral Homes general build thread 8972Jul 02, 2017 9:05 pm em-n-craig I have a question regarding brick quality and finish. Holy mother of god The mortar is bad and ive seen way worse on that corner work apart from that those little chips are very minor. What are the standards is anyone aware ? Re: Coral Homes general build thread 8974Jul 02, 2017 9:13 pm Standards go from builder to builder really, I work for villaworld and they are very strict on finishes, I just think that kind of work in the front entry is terrible, chips are minor as mentioned Re: Coral Homes general build thread 8975Jul 02, 2017 9:21 pm Thanks guys, the other internal corners are not as bad to be honest and I would rather have the entry looking the best as it's the one mostly used and first impressions on the home. The chips are understandable, but there are more that I was expecting, just a few minor issues that are adding up and although it's not really bad, it's enough to hack me off. I'm giving it time but the more I see it all I'm not getting used to it. Maybe in 5 or so years I might be ok with it Re: Coral Homes general build thread 8976Jul 02, 2017 10:19 pm It really looks worse now than when you first shared pic when it was first layed. Better start picking the render colour you want!!! https://www.homeone.com.au/member/bribiebell Re: Coral Homes general build thread 8977Jul 03, 2017 5:03 am I've been told by coral employees that there is such a tradie shortage particularly in nsw (especially Brickie's) so it's jed enough already for coral to find decent bricklayers- add to that thy coral will absolutely not budge on what they pay per brick while other companies up their price- it's not hard to see why some of us have ended up with the absolute bottom Of the pile Brickie's and such poor workmanship. Sometimes easements are unused and 24cm is not all that much. Good luck. And yes any builder… 2 15049 Hi so sorry for the late reply.
