Browse Forums Building A New House Community Garden at Aurora - seeking interested residents. 881Nov 13, 2010 1:57 pm Local residents met at the Creeds Farm Living and Learning Centre recently to discuss the begining of the Community Garden. Creeds Farm Living and Learning Centre have allowed some space for garden beds. It is open to all of the community and aims not only to be a productive and attractive garden but also a place for people to share their gardening skills and meet new people. People are needed to help with a gardening group that will help guide the garden. No experience neccessary, just a willingness to learn and be involved. We will be meeting again soon to discuss how the garden may operate and what is needed. For more information or if you would like to be involved please email me on aurora3076@yahoo.com.au Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 882Nov 13, 2010 6:29 pm djay - yes, our builder has the insulation details on our plan. And yes, we have airconditioning - ducted refrigerated cooling, although ours isn't working at present (but I won't bore you with that story!) Damoau - I wasn't making a comment on whether or not our insulation was good...just saying what type we had. We had roller shutters in our last house and believe me, they have a definite effect on the heat inside. Our last house had large westerly facing windows and even on a fairly hot day that room stayed pretty cool. We had a guy out to quote today. Just a note about the awnings - you can get motorised folding arm awnings. I have a few friends with them and they are really nice. I might be in touch soon about the ceiling fans so stay tuned! My next door neighbour received a response from VicUrban last week about the internet issues. They said they should have an answer by later this month for Stages 8-11 and 12-18 but us "oldies" (Stages 1-7) are stuck with Arise until next March...but that will come around before we know it. Internet @ Aurora 883Nov 14, 2010 10:58 pm Residents of Aurora are having significant issues with existing Internet and with getting new connections. However there are several avenues available to address these concerns and one of them is TIO. The Telecom Industry Ombudsman (TIO) can assist individuals with resident’s home phone, mobile and Internet issues. Each individual will have to register their complaint with TIO as they address each complaint separately. Complaints can be submitted online http://www.tio.com.au/or call 1800 062 058
Currently the Association is also working with States Ombudsman Victoria (http://www.ombudsman.vic.gov.au) and Australian Competition and consumer commission (ACCC) http://www.accc.gov.au to find out the best course of action for all the members.Few members are able to get home phone and internet service without fibre connection to their property.Telstra provides wireless home phone and internet service. Visitwww.telstra.com or call 1800 331 286Wireless internet coverage within the estate is available from 3 and Vodaphone. They have month to month plans to suit most of us due to monthly extensions by VIC Urban. http://www.three.com.au/cs/ContentServer?c=Page&pagename=Three%2FPage%2FThreeLayout&cid=1155054450841 or call 131 683 http://vodaphone.com.au/personal/mobile-broadband/index.htm%20or%20call%201300%20500%20222 Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 884Nov 17, 2010 7:45 am Hey Guys Our builder has finally started building our house and as it turns out, the water supply taps are smack in front of our main door. So I need to get them moved, has anyone had the taps moved? Does anyone know how to go about this? Thanks in advance. Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 885Nov 17, 2010 9:19 am Oztish and Damoau, Do you have any roof/attic ventilation installed? Eg as seen in http://www.ampelite.com.au/ventsdom.htm From what I've read, having just ceiling insulation isn't enough as all it does is slows down the transfer of heat to the ceiling below. But if used together with attic ventilation, the insulation is much more effective. We don't have this at our house, but I've seen it in a few houses in Lyndarum. Please provide any comments from those that already have these installed in their roofs. Thanks Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 886Nov 17, 2010 9:31 am djay Do you have any roof/attic ventilation installed? I did a fair bit of research about this when trying to decide if I wanted to pay extra for sarking under the tile roof. The result seemed to indicate that tiles leak a lot of air so roof spinners aren't really a benefot for tiles (without sarking). For steel roofing, definitely install some spinners. My parents have 5 on their colour bond roof (their house is 50x12m with a 23 degree pitch so the roof space is huge) and it made a significant difference. Their roof has blown rock wool with batts added over the top. CONGRATULATIONS 888Nov 18, 2010 9:33 pm Hi Mayank, Congratulations... enjoy living in your new community. If you would like to meet some of your local residents come along to the Upcoming picnic. Cheers Lisa Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 889Nov 19, 2010 12:39 pm wokwon, thanks for posting this information. I see what you mean, because of all the little gaps in between the tiles, the roof spinners are not that effective. It's great to be part of this forum with such informed users as yourself! Has anyone tried the "Universal Tile Ventilator"? (http://www.universaltileventilators.com ... &Itemid=16). Maybe that is an option? Apparently in can reduce your energy consumption by 26% Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 890Nov 19, 2010 7:12 pm wokwon djay Do you have any roof/attic ventilation installed? We have that installed in our home, and I am pretty sure All Homes in Aurora require it for the 6 star rating, Our home doesn't have any spinners, or similar, although their is an item that was supposed to be installed by our builder that allows heat to escape during hot weather, but alas nearly two years later it stioll isn't installed! Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 896Nov 23, 2010 7:47 am Hi there, I am building a house in Aurora next year, I was just wondering if fly screen is needed there and how much it'll cost to install roughly by DIY/Builder. I would appreciate if anyone could give me some information. I don't like flies and mosquitos. Would hunt them down if I can when I see them in my house Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 897Nov 23, 2010 7:51 am aurorafrog Hi there, I am building a house in Aurora next year, I was just wondering if fly screen is needed there and how much it'll cost to install roughly by DIY/Builder. I would appreciate if anyone give me some information about it. I don't like flies and mosquitos. Would hunt them down if I can when I see them in my house Hi, I live in Thomastown now (2 suburbs south of Aurora) and I can tell you that you will need flyscreens. Flys aren't too bad but this year with the amount of water laying around the mosquitoes are very bad and the size of cats. We are building the Burbank Evolution 23 in Aurora and to add flyscreens to all windows was around $450 which is cheap to me. I also emailed the window manufacturer and he confirms that the sliding and trifold/stacking doors have a flyscreen solution available and can give me a price when I have a house order submitted (so he has the right product codes). You will be wanting to leave windows open on your north and south side at night to cool your house with cross ventilation so fly screens are a must. I had mine done for around $500 through our builder (Burbank). They are getting installed today( thank god for that) The cost would depend on the type of windows you have and how many. You will definitely need them as the flies around here are very big and the mozzies are HUGE. I got attacked by them last week. Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 899Nov 23, 2010 8:26 am Thanks for the information guys. really appreciated. I am building Evolution 2300 as well. I would be curious on what solution the window manufacturer will provide for the bi-fold door though....I haven't done my colour selection, all booked out this year Hopefully I can get them done all the drawings and engineering before the land is titled.
