Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Our first build with Fairmont Homes - Blakes Crossing So 83Feb 12, 2016 7:41 pm we will try, it certainly is one of the most exciting things we will do apart from our 3 children ofcourse! Re: Our first build with Fairmont Homes - Blakes Crossing So 84Feb 15, 2016 9:58 am Just to give anyone following a heads up, fairmont do not level your entire worksite when doing your footings. We have been left with a 1metre step up to our proposed backyard, we didn't get a call when our site works started so didnt get the opportunity to ask for this section to also be levelled, we had no idea and fairmont don't tell you either, we are unable to level our remaining section of site because they have placed the soil ontop of this area. Also please be aware that you sign some clause in the contract to say that any damages to footpath or fences is not fairmonts liability, they have damaged our fence but will not Fix, they recommend we take the fence down. Though we didn't put it up as the display home next door have and hoping they don't say anything! here is a picture of our upper story backyard lol Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Our first build with Fairmont Homes - Blakes Crossing So 86Feb 16, 2016 11:37 am We had the same thing Heather! Our previously (almost) flat backyard now has quite a slope up to the fence at the back that we are going to have to level and put in a retaining wall after handover to be able to use it the way we want to. Grrr!! Re: Our first build with Fairmont Homes - Blakes Crossing So 87Feb 16, 2016 2:41 pm I feel your pain @bobbin I can't believe how much it will cost to get that levelled, no one will help us and we never even knew they were out there to even ask them! Our block had the gentlest slope and it's so obvious now, we will need render out the front too ![]() Our first build with Fairmont Homes - Blakes Crossing South 88Feb 16, 2016 10:10 pm Most builders do that mess with your soil (it's called 'cut and fill') unless you specifically ask them to level ... And even then they'll probably stuff you around until you give in and go with it. Or in our case; we levelled and retained the block first ourselves. So yes, good to point that out for peeps Heather -- They don't tell you no. This is the reo (reinforcing iron) in place. Great tip from Twin Dad (as usual). Hopefully concrete before the end of this week! Re: Our first build with Fairmont Homes - Blakes Crossing So 93Feb 18, 2016 6:07 am Fingers are crossed! So exciting! Re: Our first build with Fairmont Homes - Blakes Crossing So 94Feb 18, 2016 8:48 pm Concrete is booked for next Tuesday, can't wait to see the site clear and all that concrete! Re: Our first build with Fairmont Homes - Blakes Crossing So 95Feb 18, 2016 10:19 pm Looking good heatherkam, I bet Tuesday can't come quick enough for you and the family! Disappointing to hear of the damage to your fence. They have damaged our gate and our property has a 50m frontage and the house is 20m from the front fence, just a lack of taking care when doing things. A truck also came within centimetres of running over the water meter which is on the front fence line with a big piece of orange pipe sticking out of it. Its not a big deal and we'll just fix the gate after handover but it just makes you feel that some of the trades/delivery drivers don't care. Couldn't agree with you more, the lack of common decency was upsetting. We decided to tell metricon with whom we share the fence that has been damaged with as we don't want them to think we don't care. They sent their manager out there but when he called us he said he couldn't see any damage so low and behold we get out there and someone has fixed it, fairmont won't admit if they had something to do with it, but someone grew a conscience over night it would seem. Hope none of us experience any further damage at these contractors hands! And yes can't wait for the slab, will be lovely for the kids to see the shape of the house ![]() Re: Our first build with Fairmont Homes - Blakes Crossing So 98Feb 23, 2016 10:31 pm Woot woot!! ![]() Re: Our first build with Fairmont Homes - Blakes Crossing So 100Feb 24, 2016 8:51 pm CONSLABULATIONS!!
