Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building w/ redink - Lock up & tile meeting Tuesday! 81May 01, 2015 4:58 am Kash what a pain in the proverbial - but I have to say your paving out front looks great! I'm a bit sorry now that we're just having the bog standard laying done now. Also love your ensuite - it looks huge! Re: Building w/ redink - Lock up & tile meeting Tuesday! 82May 01, 2015 7:45 pm Thanks malsannie! It actually is one of the standard laying patterns (or was at least) - though I actually ended up choosing it because I was a bit annoyed by the shape my driveway was drawn on the plans, and the cost of upgrading pavers, so I decided I was going to make them work for my money by picking the most complicated looking pattern!!! Not exactly rational and I was a bit worried it would backfire on me Redink are back in my good books today though paving already fixed up Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ And my portico is all painted! I can't wait to have a driveway. Re: Building w/ redink - Lock up & tile meeting Tuesday! 84May 01, 2015 10:58 pm Are you doing yours after handover? I did that last time, but due to a storm, the paver was delayed and I ended up moving before it was done... Dragging trolleys over sand does not work so great!!! Re: Building w/ redink - Lock up & tile meeting Tuesday! 85May 01, 2015 11:10 pm Yes we had in our contract originally but long story short we changed it a couple months ago. Hoping to have the paving start next week. I keep having nightmares about moving with no driveway; ) we still need to have painting and flooring done after keys before move in so hopefully driveway, veranda and alfresco will be done before we move. Fingers crossed it all goes to plan. Re: Building w/ redink - Lock up & tile meeting Tuesday! 86May 01, 2015 11:14 pm Fingers crossed for you ardie! My current nightmares are about accidentally selling my house out from underneath me too early and having to move twice! Or alternatively not being able to sell it and getting stuck with two mortgages forever!!! Re: Building w/ redink - Lock up & tile meeting Tuesday! 87May 02, 2015 9:12 pm Dont talk to me about 2 mortgages I have nightmares about it too .... and if I start to think of all the post handover costs - EEEEEP! Strange we were quoted much more to have a fancy laying pattern for the pavers you're fortunate Oh and I love your portico it looks great! Re: Building w/ redink - Lock up & tile meeting Tuesday! 88May 21, 2015 9:43 am Getting so close now! And my current house is under offer (settlement should be in 7 weeks, so I need to move by mid-July) so hopefully the double mortgage bit won't be too long!!! Went out on Saturday and they'd scraped the site, installed the aircon and the cleaners were working inside. I probably could have got in for a look around, but didn't want to disturb them Went back yesterday and so much is done! Garage door is on, fly screens are on, mirrors and sliding cupboard doors are up, shower screens are delivered, doors have their glossy paint on!!! All that is left from their post lockup list is door furniture, shower screen install, silicon, termite spray and power up! (And fixing all the not quite right things!) I figure today's update email will tell me PCI is next week or the week after Re: Building w/ redink - Almost done - PCI should be soon! 89May 21, 2015 12:54 pm So close Kash! I hope you get your PCI date soon. Keep us posted and show us pictures 😃 Building w/ redink - Almost done - PCI should be soon! 90May 21, 2015 4:08 pm Well, no PCI date just yet, but the area manager will be doing his check within the fortnight; my settlement date should be no problem for keys; the electricians knew they weren't finished, even though my CLO told me they were, they were saving some things till power-up so they could show the apprentice how they're done; and my shower has been re-waterproofed, re-tiled and they're just waiting for it to dry to install the (hopefully right now!) shower fittings! And a picture, though it's always getting dark while I'm there, so it's not very good! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Building w/ redink - Almost done - PCI should be soon! 91May 23, 2015 6:41 am I'm so glad they're fixing your shower properly - and nowt wrong with the picture - apart from there only being 1 of them (I find the little man on the portaloo quite amusing hehe) Maybe they'll surprise you with an earlier date - will keep fingers crossed Re: Building w/ redink - Almost done - PCI next thursday! 92Jun 05, 2015 3:14 pm Prehandover inspection is set for next thursday morning! eeep! I've got the third-party inspector organised, and I've got my list of things I know have been missed at some point (the vast majority of which are already fixed, but some of them I haven't been able to see thanks to lock up). The inspection should only take an hour or two, but i'm taking the whole day off work so I can spend the afternoon sorting out insurance and an alarm and organising the flooring install and maybe even a letterbox and clothesline, not to mention dog door and dishwasher install!!! I predict it will be a very busy few weeks for me. I have to move by the 6th July though - that is settlement date on my current house, and the buyer got his finance approval earlier than expected and then refused to extend... Given I expect keys on the 26th, that gives me an entire week to get the house painted and flooring in... Had a chat to redink today and they will see what they can do to try and get me keys earlier, depending on how much is on the inspector's report. I'm hoping that I can maybe get the painter in a bit earlier because I really don't want to have to put my furniture in storage for a week!!!! Re: Building w/ redink - Almost done - PCI next thursday! 93Jun 05, 2015 3:41 pm Yay for PCI date!!! I saw activity at yr place this morning so that's a good sign really hope they move quickly for you. Our painters were great and did it all in 3 days. We didn't give them much notice but they're pretty flexible. Happen to pm you details if you need someone. What type of flooring are you putting in? They wouldn't let us start with trades before keys but they may like you better 😃 Good luck! Re: Building w/ redink - Almost done - PCI next thursday! 94Jun 05, 2015 4:44 pm Haha! Pretty sure they don't like me any better! All my CLO would say is that if there wasn't much in the report, then maybe I might get the keys sooner... Maybe they feel sorry because them messing up the bathroom plumbing put things back about two weeks! That's pretty much the only outstanding work I can see now... I I have a painter lined up for the 26th, they seem cheap but they're not telling me how long it will take... I wouldn't mind a back up painters details in case they flake though! Re: Building w/ redink - Almost done - PCI next thursday! 95Jun 06, 2015 5:40 pm Congratulations on getting a PCI date how exciting - It sounds like you'll have a busy day!! Don't forget to take lots of pics Re: Building w/ redink - Almost done - PCI next thursday! 96Jun 11, 2015 11:34 am I think I saw you this morning ☺ hope PCI went really well and you get keys quickly! Re: Building w/ redink - Almost done - PCI next thursday! 97Jun 11, 2015 5:50 pm Probably- I was there until almost 10, waiting for the inspector to finish up. It was good and bad I guess... I'm worried whether they'll make the two weeks with everything they need to fix - they still haven't really managed to get the ensuite right - they've just stuck the new rail on at the attachment points for the old shorter one to avoid fixing the tiling at both ends. I don't think it looks great. But they did finally get the other shower head right, and there was a concrete repairer there today fixing the messs from the misplaced drain,!but on the other hand the electricity wasn't on yet and some lights and conduit points were still missing. Overall a mixed bag. Need to get a contingency plan for furniture storage together!!! In better news I think it looks great and I love the feel of the place still can't wait to get in and start living there! I took along some paint samples to try and choose my colours... Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Been emailing my CLO about it since and they clearly don't want to fix it. She's saying its been installed to suit requirements and it's as per the plan. It is not however as per the manufacturers installation diagram or the way they installed it the first time round. Don't even know if it's worth arguing about anymore. Re: Building w/ redink - Almost done - PCI next thursday! 99Jun 11, 2015 6:23 pm Hey Kash, they wear you down don't they?! So is it the right head on the wrong bar now? Hmmm, I totally, totally appreciate wanting to give up the fight and I know you're in a massive rush to get in, but if you're not happy with it and it isn't per manufacturer's installation instructions than I'd not accept it as is. Up to you and how strongly you feel about it. They've been really good about fixing stuff (PCI stuff and other) after we got keys so it may not slow things up. On the bright side, your family room looks AMAZING! I love that recess and those windows. I'm not good with paint and colours, but my instinct, before I even saw your comments was to go with the Highgate. I liked the contrast with your cupboards and don't think it looks too yellow, but it's also so hard to tell in photos. Your flooring will change it all again and then furniture etc. It seems neutral enough that I don't think you can go wrong with it. Just my opinion I hope they can get through the PCI list quickly and you have keys in hand ASAP. Good luck! We'll have to have a drink when all is said and done and laugh about the insanity of building Re: Building w/ redink - Almost done - PCI next thursday! 100Jun 11, 2015 6:37 pm Definitely need a drink! High gates my boyfriends fave as well so that's probably a goer - it looks great in the rest of the house and yeah in the photos the other two colours are a bit matchy - colours are most definitely not my strong suit! I think the shower I might be making a bigger deal of than it actually is - it's the right rail and shower head now, they just used the attachment points from the previous one so, since it's a longer rail it now sticks up above the shower and below the bracket, and you can only use about 500mm of the rail rather than the full 800 if it was installed as before. I think it looks weird, but it would be so much work to fix... CLO is going to set up a meeting for me with the site supervisor so he can convince me to accept it... If he shows me the full installation guide and its within spec then I will I have a home gym at home. It weights 150KG including the weight stack. I'm a big boy, around 150KG myself.
