I've got a load of quotes for building inspections but am having trouble deciding if and when we should get them. They're quite expensive. I'm thinking at roof on and at final handover. I'd also like the water proofing inspected but it's just another added cost. I guess I could ask to inspect myself before the tiling goes up. Anyone else done that? Going to be a massive house - looking forward to following your build. we built with DAH and didn't have an independent inspection, we did research getting one but maybe we were lucky but had a good relationship with CLO and SS and was very hands on and at the house daily. Some people had different experiences but i do not regret our decision. Good luck Re: Dale Alcock Build in Kensington - site works 84Aug 20, 2014 4:09 pm The brick build up for the rear part of the house happened a few weeks ago. We should have footings down in the next few days and pad a few days later My New Home Build with Dale Alcock - https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=66662 Landscape Design Thread - https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=71784 Re: Dale Alcock Build in Kensington - site works 85Sep 01, 2014 12:11 am Yay, we've finally got a pad. It got laid last Wednesday. We went out a couple of days later and drew all the rooms on there. It's very exciting to see. I'm glad to see we aren't the only ones who drew on our slab Dale Alcock Build in Honeywood Our Thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70204&p=1154102#p1154102 Re: Dale Alcock Build in Kensington - slab down! 88Sep 01, 2014 3:04 pm That's a nice slab! Good idea drawing on it! Re: Dale Alcock Build in Kensington - slab down! 89Sep 09, 2014 10:56 pm Not too much progress to report. Some bricks have been delivered to site. Still no start date for brickies. There's heaps of dirt on the pad and a few sections have been damaged. Hopefully nothing that will compromise the structure. If you're not sure, better to raise it early rather than later. Re: Dale Alcock Build in Kensington - slab down! 91Sep 10, 2014 11:20 am Just read through your whole thread ... I love your house plan, you've thought of everything and how you can best use the space. I love split level houses, as someone else said on here, they look flash and expensive! Good luck with the build, have subbed to follow. Re: Dale Alcock Build in Kensington - slab down! 92Sep 16, 2014 10:50 am Just got an email to say brickies should start this week. The front door and front windows are in which makes it look like a proper house. I was chatting to the guys on site the other day and found out that there's only one guy building our whole house! The other guy supports him but doesn't actually lay any bricks (he told me he chopped off a finger 20 years ago using a brick saw!) We met the site supervisor last week. Seems like a nice guy who genuinely wants to build us a nice house. We had a chat about how far to recess the bifolds so they lay flat with the flooring...which means we had to commit to our flooring choice. We've decided to go solid wood laid plank on ply. I love brush box, but unfortunately its one of the most expensive woods We'll see how the budget is going before we choose the species. I hope you site supervisor gives you a smooth easy build! We've been taking loads of photos but I've paid a bit more attention to the types of photos since your post. I was chatting to my owner builder neighbour and she was saying that all brickwork below ground level should be waterproofed. I only see one place of our building that has been water proofed so far. Also, on our plans we will have a slope along side our laundry/bathroom. They've marked cavity filled brickwork on the ensuite wall (see pictures below). I think the ensuite wall will eventually retain a slope of around 0.6m to 0 over about a 2.5 meters. That's the only place they've done any water proofing and it doesn't appear to extend the whole length of where it will be below ground level. So my questions are: - Do all the areas below ground level require water proofing (the black painted stuff)? - If so, does that get painted on the inside of the exterior layer of bricks or the outside of the exterior layer? - And should they have done that before the pad was poured for the top level? (The entire house will be finished with acrylic textured render) - How do they do the cavity filled brickwork (our plans say refer to engineering drawings, but they don't have a detail for that) I've asked for the site supervisor to contact us to discuss, but would be nice to be armed with a bit of info Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Inside of ensuite. Black area will be retaining sloping ground on outside of house. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Exterior of ensuite/laundry. The ground will eventually need to be built up so it slopes down from the laundry door at the higher level. I can't find any that show that the bricks have been water proofed on the upper level.
