Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Custom Build (Armidale): Colorbond Moment 81Feb 17, 2014 4:10 pm Hi Trambay! I'm not sure why ours are blue :/ I assume they are all treated pine. We're having colorbond cladding so maybe when people have brick veneer it requires less treatment then if you have cladding? I'm not sure. Our roofing has started after about 5 days of solid rain (which we really needed!). They've done about half of it and would have finished the gutters this afternoon so it should be done and dusted tomorrow! I really like it. It's like a nice warm grey colour. Pretty much just like a Wallaby or a sort of mushroom soup colour and very reflective. I like it so far! But now I'm not sure about using Shale Grey as our garage door and I might go Dune instead. Made me rethink our Basalt for a moment, but we're locked in! It is beautiful and warm and soft. Well done! I'm excited to see it come together. Made sure to say that every powerpoint should be a double. I don't believe in single powerpoints as a rule. I didn't notice but the electrician started drawing on the slab before the builder pointed it out. Hopefully it didn't scratch it too much! I just didn't even think about it. Still making me cringe thinking about it. The roof is now finished, the front posts are in. We stained them 'teak'. This was a bit of a nightmare but it feels good now that it's done. We wanted to give them a good go before the cladding goes on and my partner had a week off and the builder suggested we get into it. We went for an unconventional approach to the eaves colour. I went for Monument which is the same colour as our cladding. I think this will work way better then the usual white. It'll hopefully ground the building more as I'm conscious of it seeming top heavy with the roof and walls such a contrast. It also means when you look out the windows towards the view, you don't have a big band of white across the top of your vision, it's a dark colour that blends with the window frames and lets you actually focus beyond the windows. And it won't get obviously dirty! As we were there today, all the windows went in and all the plumbing was done. I love being around good tradies who know their stuff. It's nice to be around that jokey, upbeat environment, particularly when you're doing such a devil of a job. Tips to anyone who wants to paint their eaves: Mask from the start, makes it so much easier. Load up your roller well and get a proper extending paint pole. Get someone to teach you how to cut in properly. Anyway here are some pictures! Ultimately I've been learning to just go with my gut on these things, It's done well by me so far. I'm excited to see how it looks with the cladding! But I think it will take a while before that happens. The plaster will probably have to be well finished by then. It didn't even cross my mind to question the convention on these sorts of things. Good on you for thinking outside the square. You'll have such a beautiful personalised house! I'm looking forward to seeing it with the cladding as well, it's hard to imagine how it'll look all done. Windows are looking fab. Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65085 Re: Custom Build (Armidale): Roof Complete- Windows are in! 90Mar 06, 2014 10:03 pm I think houses with bricks already have a really grounded presence and a feeling of substance and permanence so it doesn't really matter what colour the eaves are and white is just easy but I think with ours it's going to look so different to normal and it just needs something a bit more interesting to give that same effect. Fingers crossed it all works! I think we're going to have a pretty special little house. I'm excited to see how those black window frames look with my black kitchen. I'm really impressed with my plasterer. Even just looking at the walls in the photos, they look seamless and the actual plaster hasn't even gone on yet, they've just cut the plasterboard ridiculously neatly. We'll have been here 18 months It's such an awful house. There is a fireplace halfway through the kitchen and the hearth comes out half way up the only usable bench space so you can't even just stand at the counter properly. That doesn't even come close to the holes every letting spiders and vermin in and all the warm air out. I can't wait just to have an airtight house that doesn't leak or creak *sigh*.
