Kitchen layout - HELP! 82Sep 30, 2012 12:23 pm Hi Jem Thanks for looking at our joinery plans and glad it helped. I replied on our thread but just incase you dont read it. Banks of 3 is more usable than two. A lot of wasted space in two, friends have them and wish they had 3. Love your floor plan, where in norther Vic are you situated Cheers Lesley (Staceys Embassy) Re: Jem's custom build - our journey! Kitchen layout - HELP! 83Sep 30, 2012 12:40 pm I would probably take out the glass panels and have overhead cupboards right through and insert a glass window splashback insetead of the tiles... that would look beautiful... other then that Its a great size kitchen.. oh and i would do what stacey said and change the 2 drawers per bank to 3 drawers per bank...Good luck ![]() Re: Jem's custom build - our journey! Kitchen layout - HELP! 85Sep 30, 2012 12:59 pm Hi Jem Yes looks great. Love how you have put your sink in one end like us. Leaves a nice open long island bench to work with. We did this in a reno in another house and worked a treat!! ![]() Re: Jem's custom build - our journey! Kitchen layout - HELP! 86Sep 30, 2012 1:01 pm it is definantley better with 3 instead of the 2... looks good ![]() Re: Jem's custom build - our journey! Kitchen layout - HELP! 87Sep 30, 2012 1:08 pm Thanks! The only thing I am not sure of is if the cutlery drawers should be as shown or on the end of the bench to the RHS.... What do you think? Jem's Custom build - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=58630 Re: Jem's custom build - our journey! Kitchen layout - HELP! 88Sep 30, 2012 1:52 pm I agree re the 3 pot drawers, but I would do them like mine, 1 x 185 and 2 x 270 as you may have trouble fitting stockpots and other tall things in a 240 drawer as inside it will be 40-60 shorter. The smaller top drawers near the stove are great for holding your cooking utensils. In your island I would put a 400 bin cupboard next to the dishwasher (bin at top and drawer underneath). To the left of the bin I would have two sets of 4 drawers x 600 each, these are great for cutlery, utensils, dinner sets, mugs, bowls, platters, foil, gladwrap, sandwich bags etc. The extra 50 can go to the sink cupboard. In your wardrobes I would change the pigeon holes to 4 or 5 shelves, one would be fixed but the others would be adjustable giving you more flexible storage space. Regards, Grumbles Re: Jem's custom build - our journey! Kitchen layout - HELP! 89Sep 30, 2012 4:14 pm Thanks for the advice grumble bum. How high is your bench? Ours is approx. 950 so I had estimated that the drawers would be 270-300? Would that be correct? We also have a big pantry and a pot drawer under the oven.. Great tip about the robes too, must make sure their adjustable! Re: Jem's custom build - our journey! Kitchen layout - HELP! 90Sep 30, 2012 5:34 pm Your kitchen plan shows your bench as 900 so if you know the height of the kickboards and the bench just subtract them to see what is left for your drawers. My bench height is 910:- Caesarstone = 40, Shadowline = 16, Drawer 1 = 185, Drawer 2 / 3 = 270 each, Kickboard = 129 Regards, Grumbles Re: Jem's custom build - our journey! Kitchen layout - HELP! 91Sep 30, 2012 5:52 pm Thanks grumble, I think your right might have to change the top drawer to be smaller (herbs, utensil drawers). I think I'll pop down to the kitchen place tomorrow to get a better feel for it. Jem's Custom build - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=58630 Re: Jem's custom build - our journey! Kitchen layout - HELP! 92Sep 30, 2012 6:43 pm Jem, I'm not sure about the 500mm overhang on 600mm cupboards. Perhaps ask on the kitchen thread, I think either cut back to 300mm (which is normal I believe, and what we are having) or make the cupboards 800mm deep for more stability. I like the glass cupboards as I feel they kind of 'frame' that section although you would have more bench space if you went all overheads. If you are having double hanging in your wardrobe, I would suggest making the top rods at 2000mm otherwise longer items may hang on the bottom rod. I don't know how big the space is between the shower and the vanity but if possible butt them together or make sure the gap is big enough to get your hand in for cleaning. In our rental there is a gap of about 1.5 cm and the only way I can clean in there is to put an old sock on the end of a piece of dowel and run it up and down to collect the dust (when we moved in it was disgusting, the previous people hadn't ever cleaned it ![]() https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43937&start=0 Bought a block in Golden Grove - Jan 2011 Finally finished our design, Mar 2012, *yay* Signed with ADH council consent June 12 Re: Jem's custom build - our journey! Kitchen layout - HELP! 93Oct 01, 2012 2:08 pm Thanks everyone. I've taken everyone's advice into account and after a visit to the kitchen place it was pretty clear that the 2 drawers would be a terrible waste of space. So I've gone with this; Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Dream I like the glass as well. I think it will break up all the white that will be in the kitchen. We're thinking white brick like tiles for the splash back, the cabinets are natural white and the bench top near the stove will be Brook Pebble. Grumble - I've gone with what you suggested with the drawers too. A small one up the top than two larger ones below, apparently this is the most popular too. I hadn't thought about the adjustable shelves for the robes Dream but fantastic idea, I've also increased the robe heights and asked to elimate the space between the shower and vanity. Glad I posted on here for everyone’s advice. Lets hope all these changes aren't going to cost the earth! http://i1053.photobucket.com/albums/s478/jemsaf101/robesf.jpg Jem's Custom build - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=58630 Re: Jem's custom build - our journey! Kitchen layout - HELP! 94Oct 09, 2012 8:47 am Well I've received a few no's with my internal plans changes... No the gap has to stay between the shower and vanity but it will be big enough to clean between. No the shelf has to stay between the double hanging for extra support. No the robe can't be higher as the top shelf would only be 100mm - unless we upgrade to bigger robes... So now we have make some decisions again whether its worth upgrading the robes or not, they haven't given us am estimate on the cost but who knows how much extra it will cost! Oh and we're STILL wait on a building permit. I thought that since it was only being amended it would only take 1-2 weeks max but looks like I was pretty inaccurate there! Re: Jem's custom build - our journey! Kitchen layout - HELP! 95Oct 09, 2012 9:39 am We are in the same boat, trying to decide wether it is worth it to upgrade a few extra last minute things but not really knowing the cost...if you only knew the cost it makes it clearer on what is worth doing. Re: Jem's custom build - our journey! Kitchen layout - HELP! 96Oct 09, 2012 12:34 pm Tash - you think they would give you a ball park figure - hundreds, thousands, hundreds of thousands etc.... surely there's some kind of standard pricing to run with! Kitchen layout - HELP! 97Oct 10, 2012 1:45 pm Good news today - the changes to the kitchen have come back with a variation cost of $0!! Very happy. I also have choosen our carpet - well I already had but the variation come through at a high price even though it was a 'standard builders carpet' due to it coming from a supplier that wasn't on our builders prefered supplier list.... I've gone with - "Royal Twist Chocolate." There's a photo below but it doesn't really do it justice. It's a bit darker IRL - it's the one at the back, the one underneath is a mocha colour but I wasn't keen on it... Is it in the pantry or does it need to sit on a bench as it doesn't appear you've left a recess for it? Blasted things can take up valuable bench space ![]() Re: Jem's custom build - our journey! Also great changes to the Kitchen, I think its much more functional the new way and always good when it costs no extra - That does'nt happen very often does it. ![]() Hope you get your permit through soon.
