Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Liberty 42 - Day 74 - Help with electrical issue!! 13/10 81Oct 13, 2009 11:08 am Everything was going great till electrical rough in..... We have 4 downlights downstairs, 3 upstairs that we wanted in the centre of the hallway and 1 in our powderroom. Turns out the frame is in the road..so they can't put them in the centre. Now I don't want them off centre as it'd look stupid! We suggested doubling up and putting 2 rows as an alternative but they came back and said that we would have to pay for the lights + $500 variation to electrical plans! I'm really not happy...only thing i can see to do is get them put off centre and put them in after handover I'm really stuck with what to do in the powder room though..as 2 lights would look silly and 1 light off centre of the basin/mirror would also look silly. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. They don't have to charge the fee. I've had to change various things along the way in my build like bricks, tiles, carpet because they were no longer available to me. It's ok for them to make changes when it suits!! As for the powder room, maybe you could put something else in that maybe wouldn't look so obvious that it was off centre. I put an oyster light in mine (one of the cheapest) and it actually looks really nice BTW your house is looking fab Re: Liberty 42 - Day 74 - Help with electrical issue!! 13/10 83Oct 13, 2009 12:10 pm angel As for the powder room, maybe you could put something else in that maybe wouldn't look so obvious that it was off centre. The advantage of something like an oyster light is that it has a relatively wide base, so even if the wires come through the ceiling off-centre, the light can still be centred. Wanted a flush ceiling with the nice light dome shadow cast over the mirror/basin. Any suggestions on nice oysters? Re: Liberty 42 - Day 75 - Windows in/bricking started 13/10 86Oct 13, 2009 6:14 pm Today lots happened. After a few weeks of the windows on the ground they finally went up. The bricking also started and they did quite a bit in one day. Should be about a week of bricking before they start bringing in plaster etc. Some pics...brickwork Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Front Windows Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Termiglass Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Built Liberty 42 - Handover 26th Feb 2010 forum thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=17243 Re: Liberty 42 - Day 75 - Windows in/bricking started 13/10 87Oct 14, 2009 1:15 am Ok, now you're the 3rd person with lovely chunky bricks! And it so happens that 2 of you are in QLD and 1 in NSW (but from the sounds of it close to QLD border).....I'm living in the wrong state I think! We only get the skinny or the even skinnier bricks here in VIC! (Or did you pay more for chunky bricks?). Yes, I'm obsessed with bricks - don't get me wrong, I do love my bricks (it's just that the chunky bricks are much more similar in style to the chunky concrete bricks used in Germany)....What are the odds that you'll be fully rendering your house too???? (I love render too...but it was too expensive for us to have it fully rendered so we went with the upper half and full portico and this cost us quite a few bucks). Enough of my bricks and render rant.....and back to your house.....Can't wait to see the finished product once the bricks are done..And as for your lighting issue...hmmm....you'd think that when the electrical plan was done that they'd also install/erect the appropriate placement of the wood frame where these lights go.....Now I understand why in some houses the downlights are off centre...it does look awfully wierd especially when it's in the main entry hallway....This is going to be a reminder for me to mention to my hubby so that when he next speaks with our SS, he can check to make sure that our main hallway downlights are place right in the centre (we are doing it from front to back of house). If we end up with the same prob as you, I will be absolutely livid since my hallway is not the widest of hallways either. For your ensuite, maybe get a square oyster/ceiling light - there are some pretty nice contemporary designs out there and with it being square in shape, you'd be able to place it in the position you want it (even though the electrical lead from the ceiling is off centre).... The chunky bricks are used when you do a rendered house so they can brick faster. They're like a double height brick and have a really rough texture..guess the render might stick better that way. So yes..we're fully rendering the house so the bricks will disappear. Our lighting is only an issue because we have a steel frame...downlight edge has to be at least 50mm from the beam. And yes..I would have thought after a 4 hour electrical appointment that the lights would go in the righ place. For now i think we'll have to go with off centre and then if they look too stupid add a 2nd set after handover. I've seen a huge monica of a house being built in my suburb (it's a custom design) and they also used the same bricks that you have and are rendering the whole house too. So now I understand the logic..If I'd wanted to go for a full render, I'd still have to get the skinnies used by D3nnis Family before fully rendering.... I think your house is going to look gorgeous!!!!! Seems much sloppier work when it's getting rendered..morter joints all different sizes, joins don't line up anywhere. Now thinking I should have gotten the render down after handover to get a better brick job. Having trouble fitting the whole house in 1 shot now even with my wide angle so forgive the chopped off bits of the house. There's a bunch of purple bricks that make the house look "interesting". they've put a protective coating on the windows now so soon I won't be able to get in or look in at all Back Right Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Back Left Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Front Left Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Front Right: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Built Liberty 42 - Handover 26th Feb 2010 forum thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=17243 Re: Liberty 42 - Day 80 - First level bricking complete 19/10 91Oct 21, 2009 11:28 am Looks SO different now that its bricked..
