Browse Forums Building A New House Re: South @ Seaford Meadows 661Nov 01, 2014 8:07 pm I had a self stamped and addressed envelope to my house in the pack with my address that I sent the neighbours but didn't receive anything back – I wanted to get the paperwork to forward onto Fairmont and to have my own copy. I've been a bit a bit weird and anal (generally not like me at all!) with paperwork and making sure I know whats going on at all times as I can't seem to trust anyone else after the sales process and hearing all the stories from salespeople trying to get you through their door and to sign with them. Still I've not heard from Fairmont saying they have received the documents either though – but I did talk to them about it and they said that if they haven't heard back before the builders interview then they will hassle the neighbour on our behalf and try and get the documents. They said it's not a massive deal down at Seaford Meadows anyway as it's an all new development and those papers are mainly for existing builds and suburbs. We've not yet booked the final builders interview, we had Direct a couple of weeks ago – decided to supply all of our own kitchen appliances after that interview and after talking with Supreme's who said they were more than happy to accommodate any appliances we had or bought. Went appliance shopping last week and then Supreme Kitchens this week. From speaking to our salesman the final builders interview is only conducted once final council approval is done and dusted so I'd imagine we will be booking that in at some stage. Having said that I did have a voice mail from Fairmont late yesterday and didn't manage to call them back before they closed their offices for the week so that possibly could have been something to do with that. Re: South @ Seaford Meadows 662Nov 01, 2014 8:10 pm I have been taking photos of our new estate and if you go to South @ seaford meadows on Facebook you can check out beach pics , train station Land pics and all the great places around the area Can't wait to live there Re: South @ Seaford Meadows 663Nov 01, 2014 8:13 pm We booked the interview in July So that we knew the cost for the loan They will do it earlier if you want But it doesn't mean they can do anything faster like you said until council approval Re: South @ Seaford Meadows 664Nov 01, 2014 8:13 pm We're really looking forward to being that little bit closer to McLaren Vale (currently renting in Hallett Cove) and going to the Willunga Farmers Market on Saturday mornings. I hope they open up the entrance to the train station from Seaford Meadows side soon and before we move in so I won't have to walk all the way around every morning! Re: South @ Seaford Meadows 666Nov 04, 2014 1:14 pm We are going to be starting builds around the same time Final development approval will be this month So it will most likely be next year that they start Unless we are lucky in December we could get a foundation Re: South @ Seaford Meadows 667Nov 04, 2014 9:47 pm I wouldn't be surprised if we have foundations by Christmas as they get their progress payment when the slab is laid. That wouldn't bother me too much though. At least it's give the slab time to cure correctly. So long as they don't Rush to get it in and stuff it up. Re: South @ Seaford Meadows 668Nov 07, 2014 3:05 pm Yeah we finally have land settlement today Conveyancer just called to say it's all done Re: South @ Seaford Meadows 669Nov 07, 2014 5:01 pm Woo for land settlement. It's getting exciting now. All the land has their sold signs up down there and thig a are coming together now. We have final builders interview next Wednesday. Just need to finalise our electrical diagram and external colours. Going to do some final looking around on the weekend. We also managed to sort out our neighbor issue and her not returning our building on the boundary consent. Turns out realty sa havnt been able to get hold of her either and seeing as they are, at the moment the land owners they can sign the documents on behalf of the land owner for us so that's another problem solved! Re: South @ Seaford Meadows 670Nov 07, 2014 6:05 pm Good luck with your final interview Then full development approval Then it starts Re: South @ Seaford Meadows 671Nov 07, 2014 6:06 pm What brick colour are you having? Or are you still deciding Re: South @ Seaford Meadows 673Nov 07, 2014 7:28 pm Good to see another 7C1a future resident Good luck with your build. Hope all of ours go smoothly, Great picture too It's going to look so different soon, Filled up with all of our nice houses. Re: South @ Seaford Meadows 674Nov 07, 2014 8:55 pm Not chosen our exterior colours yet. Thinking a light roof like surf mist or dune and a slightly darker grey brick but will sort it tomorrow. Really not sure on the matching paints yet though. Struggling with interior paint also, it's hard to visualize with a custom design, can't just go to a show house and get an idea of things so easily. We have a few hallways so don't want anything too dark but don't want anything creamy either! Re: South @ Seaford Meadows 675Nov 08, 2014 3:22 pm We have Fairmont winter sky
I hope that looks ok We didn't get the 3 coat just 2 . Kind of spent the money on other things like the benchtop. Taps etc And at the final interview she gave us the form to sign And I was trying to check it and add it up lol Then I was thinking wow we spent heaps on extras But it was ok I was glad when that was over. Good luck with yours this week I took the I pad with everything on it and used it a bit too Like the choice of mortar, We wanted white that was $900 extra I had a pic to show her the brick with white and the brick with the other colour so it helped us a lot ... Re: South @ Seaford Meadows 676Nov 09, 2014 9:36 pm I think we finally have our colours sorted. Had to track all the way out North again to check out the brick selections – hopefully thats the last time in ages we will have to go all the way out that way! Why are all the selection places so far away! We decided on these: Bricks: Austral Nougat. Not sure on mortar yet – will wait and find out the costs associated with it first. Roof: Dune Facia and gutter: (probably, pending finding a proper colour sample) Thunderbolt. Roller Door: Most likely the same as the gutters. Interior: We're still deciding between Spirit Grey and Earth Child. Got some sample pots and painted up some MDF boards today and have been moving them around the house with different lighting scenarios and will decide sometime before Wednesday, hopefully or we will be flipping a coin. Probably go with the two coat depending on how much everything else comes to. Not 100% sure on the skirting / door frames. I'd like enamel paint or a gloss white but not sure if it will work with the wall colours and we will have to see how much it costs to get the extra painting done. We managed to keep all of our other selections to around $1200 including kitchen upgrades and things (not including appliances, we've bought them separately and gotten credit from Fairmont for their standard rubbish range). Finally finished all of the electrical diagram and lighting diagram tonight too. What a pain that is! We're just getting the basics with that and getting our baton lights in weird locations as we will get it all wired by our own electrician with our own lighting as Fairmont prices for down lights and everything else is just stupid expensive.Think we have an extra 3 double and 3 single powerpoint from what we were quoted and no extra lights so we're pretty happy with that – although I'm sure they will try and charge lots extra for silly little things like fixing external lights onto the walls instead of the eaves. Re: South @ Seaford Meadows 677Nov 10, 2014 7:08 am Hi glad you got it sorted out We have picked Austral nougat too The bricks were on display at austral with both mortars we thought the White made the brick colours stand out where the darker one didn't. And the upgrades are a lot on the appliances if you don't want the standard ones . Re: South @ Seaford Meadows 678Nov 11, 2014 8:09 pm Have you seen all of the negative posts on this forum about the Austral Nougat bricks? It's making me have second thoughts. Although to be fair they all seem to be around 2010 so hopefully things have been sorted since then. I just did a search looking for ideas on facia and gutter colours that go with nougat and was over loaded with people not having a good run with the Nougat bricks. Having said that though I'm sure the builders wouldn't be offering them still if they did cause too much drama, no one wants that. Hopefully the problems from 2010 and before have been sorted with these bricks. We will definitely be mentioning it tomorrow at the builders interview to get their thoughts. I'd be (kind of) happy to pay for upgraded bricks to be confident they will last over time. I didn't even realise until we got home from Austral the bricks were just painted on 2 sides and not coloured all the way through – I didn't even know that was a thing! Don't know how to find out what bricks are actually solid coloured right the way through without getting samples and don't have time to do that before tomorrow afternoon now! Re: South @ Seaford Meadows 679Nov 13, 2014 8:34 am Woo. All sorted with the builders interview. Managed to keep the extras, including footings to only 3300 which included color bond gutters and facias, loads of power points and some lights. So with appliances we are supplying ourselves that comes in at 5k which isn't bad at all. We were expecting far worse after speaking with others who have built before. Really happy with what we got for the money we are paying. In the end we pulled the plug on the nougat bricks. The mrs. went for one last look at the austral display centre and deemed them too cream in the end so we switched to grange. That then led to us changing the roof to wind spray with basalt gutters and facias with windspray roller doors and front door with window frames in adonic grey. Bit the bullet with the paint as well and jumped on board with Spirit Grey and a double spirit grey door frames and alcatraves. Also went with spirit grey interior doors. I still think gloss white would have looked great but was outvoted and at the end of the day we wanted to keep the costs down. Was relieved that the door frames and alcatraves are indeed a type of enamel paint tinted to the selected colour not just simple wall paint. Couldn't believe the quote of around $2k for a third coat of paint through out the house! We didn't go with that even though we would have liked to - if it were a reasonable cost we would have gone ahead and done it, they probably only pay around $150 for paint for the whole house and it wouldn't take a pro painter more than half to a day of painting to paint one more coat on an empty house! Also balked at the downright cost, if they charged a reasonable cost of 80-90 a downright we would have coincide red it but $145 was way way over the top. I told that to the interview lady and she was considering it before saying the cost was out of her hands. Considering you can get new downlight for max $45 (and fairmont would only pay around $25) where does the rest of the money go? The poor sparky pro only doesn't get a good cut of the cost fairmont charge! Anyhow. All good and now waiting for the paperwork to catch up with our excitement so we can see some movement on the block, although we were told to most likely not expect anything until end of jan. Re: South @ Seaford Meadows 680Nov 13, 2014 5:36 pm Hi glad to hear you made it through the final interview ok End of January doesn't sound great The council approval will be done very soon. We would have got the three coat paint too if it wasn't so much . You can ask the TF electrician to do down lights Just not through fairmont Well these guys are not looking good... I sent them a written enquiry last week and they have not yet replied.
