Just heard from my friend who's with Zen too that Andrew got accident on the weekend & his car got right off.
But I think he's ok.
Thanks willcres for that info! Not nice for Andrew though... I hope he is OK.

I have just caught up with your progress (since p. 24!!! .. that has taken a while on the wireless!! ). Big congratulations on signing at last! I think you have made a great choice ~ + it's such a tricky choice ~ I think you + gogo + the rest of the Zen-ers are going to keep them on their toes big time!! I can't wait to see this amazing house go up, so bring on January 2012! Yay big time. Re your thoughts about sustainable salvage for your demo ~ our demo company included salvage of all salvageable items within the cost of the demo. So in other words, if we had given our big old tin shed away (was big ~ was 6m x 4m ~ DH is still getting over the loss! ) ~ instead of letting the demo guys take it ~ then the demo would have cost more. While we didn't have the opportunity to 'personally' supervise every aspect of the demo (life is just too busy! didn't get the chance), I do trust that the items that were there did get recycled. If they got on-sold by the demo company to another party then that was just fine with me ~ ultimately they were going to be used by someone + we didn't have the time to find homes for everything ~ or the skill to uninstall some items. Not forgetting we had asbestos removal in there as well. For example, the old kitchen was fully timber (not laminate) ~ someone would have been thrilled with this. All the window frames were cedar (+ painted "mission brown" too! ). We had x3 Daikin inverter units ~ worth a bit secondhand ~ but we don't know how to uninstall them! We found it was easier to go with people who know what they're doing in this regard. Anyhow ~ big congratulations on how far you've come! Really thrilled for you now ~ yours will be a great one to watch! _______________________________________________________________ We're a knockdown | rebuild ~ Melb SE burbs Building modified version of the Fairhaven Glenaire Homeone thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=28429 _______________________________________________________________ Re: SunshineT's Build: just signed our life away!!!!!!!!! 643Oct 30, 2011 6:47 am vanilla tree Anyhow ~ big congratulations on how far you've come! Really thrilled for you now ~ yours will be a great one to watch! awwwh, thanks VT! So nice to get comments like this. You know I what I think of your place. Oh! I was thinking of you (isn't that strange, when we haven't even met! ) the other day when looking at fans. The ones we saw in a shop were not nearly as nice as yours Thanks for your thoughts on demo too. MORE PROGRESS. Demo guy finally came on Friday. We were both very impressed. All up $15K-$16K including asbestos removal, all services (eg. electricity & water disconnected, sewer cap, toilets etc.), concrete cutting, sediment protection etc. The previous quote we had from State Demolition (which is who many Masterton builders use) was $19K-$20K. We have a double brick house with two garages and two driveways. Obviously when we bought the house we were NOT thinking of KDR!!! On the salvage point - he doesn't mind if we salvage any stuff ourselves, in fact he was encouraging that (eg. our Rheem hot water system). Price is the same whether we get rid of stuff or not, so we will do our best (also dependent on time ). And better again, they don't shut down over Christmas, so we can start whenever we want The key here of course is getting all the paperwork done and when Zen can come on site (as they shut down for 3 weeks) and we don't want to pay 3 weeks extra rent if it just means starting a few weeks later. TILES - so going out to Beaumont tiles today to (hopefully!) make final selection on bathroom tiles and external tiles!! We will use Zen range for internal tiles. Re: SunshineT's Build: just signed our life away!!!!!!!!! 646Nov 05, 2011 7:35 am Yay - we finally have CC plans!!!! Don't ask me how long it took, but glad to finally have them. Had a mini melt down when I reviewed them because none of our changes (that we gave them in July) had been incorporated, but after emailing / smsing Zen I was VERY impressed that the draftsman called me, stayed back on Friday arvo and got all the changes in then sent them back to us Friday night. Just going through the minor details and electrical layout over the weekend!!! Plus looking at tiles and carpets too... so things starting to pick up pace again (we hope!). Paid deposit for demolition yesterday and put in order for our custom front door, so we are moving along!!! Re: SunshineT's Build: just signed our life away!!!!!!!!! 648Nov 07, 2011 4:22 pm Thanks Annette!! Not sure who other than Annette or gogo are still reading this thread, but more good news... We locked off the CC plans today!!! Lightening fast turn around Friday / today (after such a huge initial delay). We are incredibly relieved. I wonder if we will get CC this week... Not holding my breath... Meanwhile, we have also been busy looking at tiles and carpet. Made this choice for Bathroom tiles: Wall: White Mode Floor: Charcoal Bench: White swirl (Qantum Quartz) Grout: white and charcoal Vanities etc: exciting white Found a nice external tile and one internal but will still take a look at Zen's range. Had a quick look at Carpet Call but they said we needed to go to the Seven Hills HQ. Anyway, extremely relieved to FINALLY be making some progress... ps: Cosmopolitan Homes went under on Friday, after Westminster a few months earlier, so we just want to get on and finish our home ASAP now! I am pretty sure Zen will be fine though... It seems to be the larger companies who took risks with land and house packages... I like the sound of your bathroom choices. I can imagine you are anxious to get this build started, won't be long now. Loretta Thanks Loretta. I haven't had a chance to catch up on your thread recently - how are you faring? Rups I read it T love hearing about your progress and love your floorplan. All the best, Leanne Hi Leanne! Nice of you to pop in. It's funny how we write these threads thinking we are the only one reading them, when actually a lot of people might be following the thread but we just don't know it. See you all when I get back from Tassie! Hopefully we will have CC and HIA when we get back (I asked for the HIA contract last night...) but I am not getting my hopes up too high so as to avoid too much disappointment. The whole Cosmo mess (which seems to be getting worse by the day, with some sites experiencing vandalism and theft) really makes me a little anxious and just wanting to get a move on and over soon! xoxo T SunshineT's Build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=34585 Designs start: 4/12/09 DA: 5/7/11 Demo: 22/12/11 Slab: 24/2/12 Keys: 31/8/12 Re: SunshineT's Build: just signed our life away!!!!!!!!! 655Nov 09, 2011 7:33 am I'm here, but just reading. Re: SunshineT's Build: just signed our life away!!!!!!!!! 658Nov 20, 2011 5:32 pm Hi Sunshine Just spent a rainy afternoon reading your thread ... wow, what patience you must have! I thought our saga with the Council and our builders was bad but you've been thru it worst than us. And a juggle with different builders too! (We were 6 months in Council then 4 months before builders actually started anything.) You must be a saint! Custom builds, I'm sure, are worth it in the end. Good luck with it from here on in... it can only be smooth sailing from here - all the planning is done! I'll be watching with interest. Things are in going-nowhere land for us at the moment, but we are going out to see Zen on Sunday (to talk about HIA contract, CC, tiles, and other paperwork). Meanwhile I have started rethinking (so unlike me ) about our payment schedule (and whether it is front loaded). This is what we currently have: Deposit 25% - slab 25% - frames 20% - brick and roof 20% - internal linings and lock-up 8% - Practical Completion 2% - Handover Is that the same as others? ps: I just checked what the Masterton payments were, and this is what MrsRose who was paying cash was given: 5% deposit 20% floor slab complete 20% frame and roof truss delivery 15% brickwork complete 20% roof tile complete 10% lock up complete 7% practical completion 3% settlement and handover SunshineT's Build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=34585 Designs start: 4/12/09 DA: 5/7/11 Demo: 22/12/11 Slab: 24/2/12 Keys: 31/8/12 Fig Landscapes has produced an e-book and native plant index, available for purchase from their website.
