The roof is all done.

Well, after another whole week of next to no action, we now have windows in (well, two left to go), and wrap on. And our bricks have been delivered. The builder tells me they'll start them early next week.

Thanks allblaqk, we hope so, lol. We had to pay extra for off white mortar, but i think you really need it with dark bricks.

I don't know if it was the rain, or just a lack of organisation on the builder's part. We had the rood go on Thursday last week, rain came in on Saturday, Monday was a holiday anyway, but no one back on site until yesterday for the wondows and wrap. So in less than 5 weeks that's the 2nd time our house has sat for a week with no action. Imagine how far along we could be if they had trades organised back to back? I don't remember it being like this last time, mind you, we weren't living on site last time, so maybe we just didn't notice so much if no tradies had been, lol.

This is true, rain here was horrible on Tuesday, don't think anyone came till yesterday. Have they ever worked weekends?

Not yet at ours. But i do remember on our last build the builder who installed like internal doors and architraves and that sort of thing worked weekends.

Just a vent... I'm dying for a real shower, lol. I can't decide if on handover day we come with a truck full of furniture, or just a towel and toiletry bag so I can go straight in and have a nice long hot "indoor" shower, lol.

I'm driving myself bankers looking at all the house designs. My husband really likes the Mandalay from GJ Gardner. He wants to put the pool in the courtyard.

I read your post about GJ being more expensive than the rest. I might start looking more seriously at some of the others.

I'm looking forward to watching your build

Hi Miss Asha. We are on the left side of Curra on 3.5 acres. We love it, it's so peaceful out here. We didn't have too much trouble with house design because GJ Gardner had a special on the Forestdale 164 when we first built, and that was all we could afford, lol. We loved the layout so much living in it, that we loosely designed the current house around that design. Whoever you build with, try for a fixed price contract.

Our block is about 100 metres before the Puma service station heading north on the right hand side. It backs onto the Bruce highway. We are still in the due diligence stage.

What class did your soil fall under? We're allowing for H1.

We allowed for H1 too. Our cut involved some uncontrolled fill because they sort of cut the top off our little mountain and pushed it out, so it has fill around the edges if that makes sense, so came back as a P type, but if not for the fill the report says our soil type would be m class. If you think there will be any fill make sure they allow for piers in your slab costs.

Oh, and we looked at a block on Kirsten Drive that backed onto the highway, but i think it was 5 acres. Had a really creepy outdoor dunny on it that they had a pipe coming out of just onto the ground further down on the block, grossed me out enough to not buy that one, lol.

And the plumber has been in and started his rough in. Feels like they're getting a riggle on now having so many tradies here on one day.
