Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Doing it again 61Aug 01, 2016 10:28 am I'll update on my post we've got the schedule for the next couple of weeks so the end is in sight! I drove past your block on Saturday, my daughter and I went to Woollies and I bought us both a snickers at the checkout, we couldn't eat them in the 3 minute drive home so we had to drive around until we were finished so the boys didn't know we'd snuck a treat in for us and not them! Anyway, I saw your tap and your back retaining wall, it's not as high as I thought it might be so that's good. You did say 8 foot above, I just didn't read it very well! I think your idea of some raised beds is great, will really disguise it. Your block is in a great position for the northern sun too, no other places around are going to block it, good news. Yes, thats one of the reasons why i chose that block. Was originally looking at one on Tidworth grange but after going past there late one afternoon and seeing how much shade was cast over the back half of the block, i decided that one wasn't ideal, so decided to go look at those closer to train station. The majority of them were too close to the train line so dismissed them. The one i ended up getting was the best of the bunch that were still available. Anyway, i was still keen on the tidworth one but when i went in to the sales office, Patrick told me that someone else had put a hold on it and that he wouldn't know whether they would go ahead with it until the next day. So, that made up my mind there & then to go with the one closer to the train station. The aspect of it is not as good as my previous house which was on greenstead way - in that one the back yard faced north west. Anyway, i think this new place will work. The house that is on the low side is about 1m lower and short, so won't block out too much afternoon winter sun. I'm still blown away by how quickly things are going at the moment. And i'm very happy with my choices & upgrades. I do wish i could have had proper cupboards & countertop in the laundry. I will have have to get a benchtop from bunnings post-construction.
