Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building w/ redink - Finally a slab! 61Dec 18, 2014 2:33 pm You definitely don't have our brickie, he's currently plugging along across the street from us. He's good, but you're better off:) our brick inspection did go very well. I'm cautiously optimistic that our new SS (who i still haven't met) is good at his job and is getting things moving at a good pace. Time will tell but so far so good right?! Merry Christmas Kash. Hope they get brickwork done quickly for you. Re: Building w/ redink - Finally a slab! 62Dec 23, 2014 8:51 pm Thanks ardie! And merry Christmas to you as well! I was excited to see they've kept bricking this week, despite the offices being closed, so I definitely think things are going along well now! Re: Building w/ redink - Finally a slab! 63Apr 01, 2015 3:01 pm So, I really dropped the ball with this whole documenting the build process thing! It's actually been going quite well since Christmas, I've just been busy and distracted by other things! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The house has been at lock up for a few weeks now I think - they've done the cabinets and benches and sinks, though I haven't managed to get inside since, so only have some ** window photos from before the stone went on My massive front door with rice paper glass - it actually got stained the other day, so I need to get a new pic! Re: Building w/ redink - Lock up & tile meeting Tuesday! 64Apr 01, 2015 7:28 pm Looks great Kash. I drive by periodically to see how it's going and you seem to be moving along. Cabinets all look great. Hope you can 'sneak' in soon Building w/ redink - Lock up & tile meeting Tuesday! 65Apr 01, 2015 8:18 pm I drive by yours for a squiz sometimes as well ardie! Really liking your red front door! Bathroom windows were open a crack today! They've been very good with keeping the doors all locked up though! I'm not sure I'm totally happy with the cupboard colour - they look darker than I expected! Though I'm hoping that has a lot to do with the bright white plaster and it'll balance out a bit with the splash back tiles... Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The stain on the front door looks good from back a bit Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ But up close its pretty streaky/patchy. Anyone know if this is typical? I think I'll be asking them to try and neaten it up! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Building w/ redink - Lock up & tile meeting Tuesday! 66Apr 04, 2015 7:14 pm I was sure I'd replied to this - but it didn't seem to work grrrr. The front door looks wonderful with the 2 sidelights, you'll have so much natural light. Sorry I can't help with the paint finish and whether it is typical or not - I'd not have noticed it if you didn't point it out! Your kitchen is looking great too - what a lovely big island bench and it looks like they've done a good job of the cabinets. Re: Building w/ redink - Lock up & tile meeting Tuesday! 67Apr 09, 2015 3:59 pm Thanks malsannie! I really love the whole portico!! Glad I went for the big door and sidelights for it- need to get some pot plants in there and a nice chair when it's done! Did anyone else's site supervisor not bother to show up for their tiling meeting? It's not a huge deal, since the tiler was there and seemed to know what was going on, but it would have been nice to meet him and chat about a couple of other things in the house ( and maybe get an idea of when he expects PCI!) Anyway I got to sticky beak at the cabinets from inside, so totally worth it Re: Building w/ redink - Lock up & tile meeting Tuesday! 68Apr 09, 2015 4:08 pm Oh, can't forget some pictures! I went back to the house after work yesterday to see progress and it was all locked up tight again, so back to window pics! Kitchen splash back - looking very shiny! The tile meeting is pretty much the only time we met our supervisor, but i see that your mtg was on a Tuesday. Tuesday is the day the supervisors are all in the office for meetings. It's all looking really good! I know the paint job on our veranda posts was pretty bad. Looks like they put another coat of paint on though still not great. Certainty mention that you're not happy with the stain. I'm sure they'll fix it. I guess if it wasn't for the long weekend, they'd start on a Monday, and the supervisor would be able to get there - I wouldn't want them to delay tiling for it! Though might've been nice if my CLO hadn't implied he would be there... Like most of us, I now have a list of things I'd like fixed Re: Building w/ redink - Lock up & tile meeting Tuesday! 71Apr 15, 2015 2:51 pm Looks like they've finished up the tiling! But I'm not totally sure because I'm still locked out! Kind of wish I could stop by in the day and find someone there to let me in!!! Oh well I started couch shopping on the weekend for the theatre room! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ This is the current favourite from Dankz - size, shape and feel - not colour! Need to give it a few weeks till the boy is willing to look in a few more shops - this ones a bit on the exxy side., but is otherwise perfect. Any suggestions for stores to look in for similar? We went to amart, fantastic and Harvey Norman cos they were nearby - but the first two are lower quality than I'm looking for and nothing grabbed us at HN. Also looked at lighting since we passed a beacon Turns out we have very different tastes in light fittings! Only one we agreed on was something like this for the portico - but it's actually an indoor light, so not sure if it's allowed even in a protected area like the portico... Apparently the look on my face and the happy dance when my boyfriend tried the laundry door and it actually opened was a bit ridiculous, but I'm sure you all understand I've since been able to get in again... And the tiling is done, the plumbing finals done(mostly correct!), and the electricals in progress! Shiny new kitchen appliances... Paving is done, driveway is good... Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ But I paid to extend the alfresco paving to the fence... Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Also not convinced my retic pipe is present under the driveway... It looks like the electrician hasn't done anything further for a week or so, but there's at least five missed power points, 2 conduits, 3 incorrect light fittings, no under cabinet lighting and some interesting light locations that are probably due to roof beams and not the electrician but I'll still check! They finally agreed that I was right about the ensuite showers being wrong, and they're going to rectify, which is nice :p so far they've removed the fitting that should be at the other end entirely and its disappeared, while the rail that is completely wrong has had the shower head removed and the rail left in place... My trust level for them at the moment is so high that I've taken photos to make sure they're not going to do the d*dgy and leave me the wrong rail with the right shower head to avoid having to do further tiling repairs... Sorry for the length, but I think I've finally reached the really frustrating part of the build!!! They still haven't fixed a couple of other things they were told about months ago either... It doesn't help that my current house is now on the market, so I get to spend my weekends cleaning and worrying about home opens! Ugh Re: Building w/ redink - Lock up & tile meeting Tuesday! 79Apr 30, 2015 3:16 pm Hey Kash, very sorry about the frustration. I feel your pain sometimes I just shake my head and cannot figure why something was done the way it was or worse not noticed and fixed. I think there may have been an electrician at our place this morning so maybe he stopped by your place next! I think it's a very good idea to document it all. Hopefully you won't ever need the back - up but you never know. Re: Building w/ redink - Lock up & tile meeting Tuesday! 80Apr 30, 2015 8:44 pm Eh, honestly I'm pretty sure it'll all get fixed eventually, it's just the process to get there seems a bit painful! The paving will apparently be fixed before next week, the electrician is coming back next week and my aircon will be next week or the week after... Not much left at all really!!! As per their post lock up list, I have - painter gloss out - insulation (this week) - shower screens, mirrors, robe doors - door furniture - garage door - house clean - silicone - final site clean - termico spray - power up house - aircon install (next week) And all the bits they have to fix Should have keys by end of June...
