Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building own design with Format SA 61Jul 11, 2011 8:40 pm your house is looking great Drayto Weird about the toilet window, have you checked your plan to make sure the right size is in? I love the look of the front of your house - it has a lovely roofline. https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43937&start=0 Bought a block in Golden Grove - Jan 2011 Finally finished our design, Mar 2012, *yay* Signed with ADH council consent June 12 Re: Building own design with Format SA 62Jul 11, 2011 10:51 pm Thanks everyone. Theresa - that will be blue board and then rendereded - woodland grey to match the garage doors - hopefully the colours will look ok - so far they do. Yeah we really like the front verandah - i think it gives the house a nice welcoming feel dreamcometrue - yeah its the correct size window - i like the big window in the toilet, just hope its high enough to fit the toilet And well with the amount of squeeking one of my boys does, we need the fresh air!! ness'n'troy - we too love the alfresco. after living in the hot weather for many years and living outside, we wanted a similar lifestyle here - cant wait to get the couch and have a glass of wine. Yes the inside is clean and the outside is clean but sooooooooooooo muddy - guess that cant be helped at this time of the year. Called past today - still no cornices However the doors, skirting boards, blue board and cement sheeting were delivered today, and well Format dont seem to have stuff delivered and then left to sit around too long, so HOPEFULLY back to it tomorrow. Re: Building own design with Format SA 63Jul 11, 2011 11:10 pm Its looking great and very clean wishing we had your SS !!!! We haven't met ours yet as we only get down there on weekends . I still find it slightly freaky that we are both building custom designs with Format on triangular blocks Re: Building own design with Format SA 64Jul 13, 2011 7:28 pm Yeah, rather bizarre isnt it! I am shocked at how slow things seem to be moving for you tho - i dont know if that is a reflection of the ss or not. We are getting along really well with ours now - he called me today to give me an update Well called past yesterday and today, and the latests: Doors delivered and half installed, half window and door frames installed, bath delivered, not sure if toilets have been delivered coz we are.........................locked up!! Plasterer back tomorrow to finish cornices. Kitchen to be delivered this week, tiler in on Fri & Sat to start screeding..........then tiling next week. We are fulll steam ahead Re: Building own design with Format SA 65Jul 13, 2011 8:35 pm Wow it's all happening now! https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43937&start=0 Bought a block in Golden Grove - Jan 2011 Finally finished our design, Mar 2012, *yay* Signed with ADH council consent June 12 Re: Building own design with Format SA 67Jul 13, 2011 10:21 pm OMG! What SS calls with an update?!?!? I want your SS!! Congratulations on being all locked up That's exciting that your kitchen is arriving this week. Can't wait to see it installed. Re: Building own design with Format SA 68Jul 13, 2011 10:50 pm Locked up !!!!!!! So jealous , congratulations So what month were you given for handover ? We were told Christmas , DH always says they didn't say which Christmas though I think the kitchen would have to be one of the most exciting parts of watching the build so can't wait to see yours We have door frames and windows in the back of the house as of today so they may be speeding up a bit Re: Building own design with Format SA 69Jul 17, 2011 2:47 pm Yeah, i was pretty chuffed when he called Theresa - when you consider the start we had with him and how things are now - we are really happy and lucky. BuildingSA - we havent ever been given a finish time only the regular 26-28 weeks from slab pour which would put us at the end of October. However the caprenter (does the door frames, doors, skirting etc) said to me that handover usually occurs 8 weeks after he has finished - he will be finished with us THIS WEEK!! I really hope things do pick up for you now - Wednesday seems to fining up a little so bring on the brickies! No kitchen delivered, but thats ok. We had tiles delivered instead! Wrong cornices have been installed in master bed, but that will be rectified tomorrow. Spoke to PGH and they should be organising for our bricks to be fixed in the coming weeks too. Sorry no pics - not much to take photos of really - maybe when i get in will take a pic of the tiles and doors. Re: Building own design with Format SA 70Jul 17, 2011 8:13 pm Hi Drayto We looked at some more displays down south yesterday but haven't got a builder as yet. We have been tweaking our plan and working out what we really want in the house before taking it to builders so that we can get as accurate quote as possible. I'm hopeful that we will take it to builders next weekend. https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43937&start=0 Bought a block in Golden Grove - Jan 2011 Finally finished our design, Mar 2012, *yay* Signed with ADH council consent June 12 Re: Building own design with Format SA 71Jul 18, 2011 9:43 pm dreamcometrue Hi Drayto We looked at some more displays down south yesterday but haven't got a builder as yet. Re: Building own design with Format SA 72Jul 21, 2011 8:18 am Now dont be jealous, but had another call from the ss to update me, so i popped the big question.... When will the house be finished First response: Contract says completion 4 November! My response: rubbish! i was thinking more September Next response: i anticiapte walk through in - wait for it............ 6 WEEKS then handover around 3 weeks after that Anyways, all is moving along well. heading back to site today, so kichen, bathroom etc should be fully installed - bathrooms were completed on Tuesday, Laundry was almost done - installer said he would be finished yesterday - so hoping for a nice surprise today and will take some pictures! Met with tiler on Tuesday, he had already installed the bath and had started tiling the toilet floor- he expects to be finished next week. Eaves in this week, bricks cleaned in the next week or so, not sure when portico will be finished/rendered. Re: Building own design with Format SA 73Jul 21, 2011 10:21 pm As promised, i called past today and took a few photos - not the best, was in a hurry. What do you think of the white tiles in the bathroom - do they look too white? Those bathroom tiles look fine. I think your colours all look great together. Re: Building own design with Format SA 75Jul 21, 2011 11:31 pm Very very jealous How quick are they moving for you !!! Great pictures , it all looks fantastic . I am not very good with colours ( dreading seeing my choices in real life) but to me the bathroom tiles look fine and I am sure when they are grouted in it will all blend in. Our toilet floor tiles look pretty much identical Re: Building own design with Format SA 76Jul 22, 2011 8:07 am Wow! it really is all happening at your place hey!?! Kitchen is looking awesome & I love the horizontal handles & handle-less overheads. I agree that your bathroom tiles will look fine, it's hard to tell at the moment but once they're all grouted & cleaned & the walls are painted it will look perfect. Re: Building own design with Format SA 79Jul 24, 2011 1:13 am wow I go offline for a while and look what happens!!!! So much has been done! Love the kitchen!!! Definately not too white! White is good! OMG 9 weeks!! :) How exciting! Re: Building own design with Format SA 80Jul 24, 2011 10:01 pm Thanks everyone for your compliments. After popping in again on Friday, i am not concerned anymore with the white - as you say once grouted and the sinks etc go it, it will all blend in. A lot of tiling work done on Friday and the water proofing was done, so tiling will be finished by around Wenesday i think. Will post more pictures once they are completed. Buidling SA - our tiler has been great - he's young but takes a lot of pride in his work - really happy with his work and really happy we got him. HillsCass - our benchtop is actually natural quartz - i am happy with the results - cant wait to get that plastic off tho Well i guess we will wait and see if we do have handover in 9 weeks - i dont like to get tooooo excited Hi Mofflepop, I would recommend finding a building designer to prepare plans, they should design to your specified budget.
