Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Custom with Masterton: Help! with windows? 61Jul 06, 2010 5:37 pm brb - thank you for that! You have confirmed my suspicion. So valuable to get the samples sent so you can see the individual brick (not just in a wall display). BZMZ - Boral courier the sample bricks free of charge! I asked for 3 colours and I got 3 bricks in each colour (Graphite, Sirius Cove and Haze). The only brick (that I have on my short list) that seems to be the same colour all the way through is PGH Cement. BZMZ - Thanks for comments on the windows. Yes, decisions, decisions. And I am sooooo hopeless at making them! Luckily we aren't in a rush anymore... Though both of them are brillant and stylish. Good to hear you've some bricks at home to play with . Thanks DRAM. Yes, I have some new toys to play with oh the strange world of home building that we all live in... I think I am going to make the study window bigger (but still keep the horizontality!). Can you imagine (Actually, I must admit it was rather lovely ... away in the mountains with the family and no mobile range). Now we are back to reality and DH is meeting the draftspeople tomorrow to (hopefully?) finalise plans. Our architect had some pretty curve ball ideas, including a front door at stair landing level and access bridge from road (we are thinking: Masterton won't build it and lots of $$$$), so we are not including these radical changes. Trying to catch up on all the happenings on H1 - might take a few days... Bel - thanks for you comments on the red coming through ... I am so glad I made that comment as I have had some really useful feedback which confirms my concerns ... BZMZ - thanks, I will check out PGH Aluminium. Is on display at Warwick Farm? I am just getting my head back into external decisions ... and so many! As for bricks, I have 6 different samples sitting on my back porch (which I can see from the kitchen sink window, so I stand there many times a day just looking and pondering...). I am so glad I ordered samples to discover that some brick have red clay underneath... which is steering me to bricks that have solid colour. Which means we have to choose not only brick type but then also Moroka paint colour too!! (But I do love looking at all the colours ... I am sure you all know what I mean . We were going to do it as well but my father couldnt stress enough the painting required (although there are painters in our family), but when we got the price back we thought forget it! I'm glad its working out for you though I think it looks beautiful! And it sounds like you have a lot of colour combos to take into consideration. [/quote] Hi BZMZ - yeah, I am a little daunted at all the combos we have to work with. Thats a good idea about driving around some estates... Its funny, whenever we are out in the car I am constantly noticing houses, brick colours, Moroka colours and commenting to DH. Its always what you are looking to buy that you notice (like when we were getting a new car - all you see is cars!). The challenge is that I like Sirus Cove but there aren't any places I have seen with it built. PGH Cement is still up there, and Lizzy has used it. I am going to Ryde this weekend I hope to see a house built with it, and hopefully back out to Warwick Farm next week. Our plan is to choose the brick, then do the Moroka ourselves (correction: outsource privately, not through Masterton, we are so not painters unfortunately!). That way we can paint a few sample colours onto the brick when the house is finished. Does that sound like a crazy idea? We will have to indicate general colours to Council though ... Of course I will be sure to keep you updated! And likewise please xoxo T SunshineT's Build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=34585 Designs start: 4/12/09 DA: 5/7/11 Demo: 22/12/11 Slab: 24/2/12 Keys: 31/8/12 Re: Custom with Masterton: Help! with windows? 78Jul 27, 2010 8:46 am Hey T, I know that's so true hey - when we were picking external colours I had never noticed so many roof colours before lol.. but as for your brick, when is your deadline to give in external selections? have they booked you into colours yet? I was going to say that I am due to start construction very soon and if you can wait 2 months or so then I can show you pictures of sirius cove. We haven't seen it up anywhere either but it was the only brick we liked without upgrading.. and it is very similar to PGH aluminium which we loved. So i dont think you can go wrong with a light-mid grey brick. But just depends what you're into and I think mainly it depends on what suits your facade. The affinity was moroka beautiful colour a light grey so we tried to mimmick that as we've seen our facade in those colours. Anyway - let me know when your deadline is for all this stuff. Oh the colour selection was FANTASTIC. It's like being a kid in a lolly shop. I love interior design and so it was just perfect getting to choose everything! 1st Tender - 20 March 2010 Slab - 14 August 2010 Frames - 31 August 2010 Roof - 11 September 2010 Bricks finished - 2 October 2010 Lock up - 15 October 2010 Keys - 10 December 2010!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=41002 Re: Building Custom Design with Masterton (Living Upstairs) 79Jul 27, 2010 2:27 pm DRAM SunshineT So... we think we have worked out the timber-look door confusion. DRAM - it turns out 'Tuscan' is a door type (horizontal panels). There are two timber-look colours: Caoba Dawn and Classic Cedar, but a new one has just been released "Golden Oak" which DH said looks the best. Interesting price comparison from Gliderol off-the-street retail 2.8m wide doors: standard Colorbond = $928 Caoba / Cedar = $1,211 New Oak = $1,332 Masterton were quoting $447 to upgrade to Caoba Dawn from the standard included in their Base Price (which, if my maths is correct, is about a 33% margin? Or perhaps not, depending on whether Masterton were quoting on 2.8m door or the double door - our quote doesn't specify. Devil is in the detail). T - Sorry about the confusion! I got turned off when the lady at the colour selection told me that we have to pay $300 extra to change to timber look but I found some of their quotes were not exactly the same from other quotations they've given to other mastertorians. For instance to change to shower mixer tap others got charged $88 but we've been told $198 same thing with external wall lighting during my electrical appointment the other lady was telling me that it was not included but later on she's been corrected by her collegue that suppoesd to do my electricals (It was a bit of a luck for us then ). Just be prepared because the tender issues is not going to end there but eventually you'll get through it. Just keep it all documented for future reference. Cheers! One would think that they would have standard margins across the board - surely? Or do they impose their own irritation % or feeling annoyed today - will add an extra %?? Sorry, I shouldnt be so negative, its all gone so well for us pre-construction, im just impatient!!
