Fingers crossed they get their act together soon!!!! I hear the weather might be clearing up soon! I second Nuwarra in saying your colours are GORGEOUS! Adnilem - i know which house you are!!! (we're on the same street, further down in the new section). It's a gorgeous house and i love your colours. 437sq isn't that small - we're building a 30sq single storey home on a 450sq block!!! (tiny backyard for us!!). There are 350sq blocks available now so you aren't the smallest at all! We have an awesome mothers group happening at GF - if you're interested PM me.... it's such an awesome place with wonderful young families!!! I'm loving my neighbours already and we haven't even moved in yet! Re: Saville at Georges Fair - Bricks have arrived! 62Jun 17, 2010 10:21 am Update from the SS, if the rain holds out for the next week, we have a 'good' bricklayer starting Wed/Thur next week and will be there for around 8 days (apparently he waited for this good one) - maybe my pestering him about all aspects of the build has done some good and we won't have the bricking issues that many others on the forum have had , then again, maybe not... Great news about bricking starting, my fingers are crossed for you that everything goes without a hitch Current status: Busy making the house our home Built PD Francis 29 on our 576m2 block at Reflections in Tarneit Reflections Estate Thread Our Build Thread Re: Saville at Georges Fair - Bricks have arrived! 65Jun 25, 2010 11:01 am Yay, got a call from the SS this morning and apparently our brickie is starting on Monday (finally). He is finishing up a double storey a few doors down from us today, then coming straight to ours on Monday. Hmmm, will have to have a look at the double storey over the weekend to check the finished quality of the so-called "good brickie", as the SS has told us, hopefully he and his team are awesome... Re: Saville at Georges Fair - Bricks have arrived! 66Jun 25, 2010 11:05 am Excellent news! You must feel relieved to hear some progress will take place next week after waiting so long. Seriously though, 8 or so weeks to wait for bricks and then a brickie is pathetic. Hope you have a quick and smooth run from here on. Re: Saville at Georges Fair - Bricks have arrived! 67Jun 25, 2010 11:08 am Great news joannapaulp, definitely check out his work on the double story Current status: Busy making the house our home Built PD Francis 29 on our 576m2 block at Reflections in Tarneit Reflections Estate Thread Our Build Thread Re: Saville at Georges Fair - Bricks have arrived! 68Jun 25, 2010 12:00 pm Nuwarra Excellent news! You must feel relieved to hear some progress will take place next week after waiting so long. Seriously though, 8 or so weeks to wait for bricks and then a brickie is pathetic. Hope you have a quick and smooth run from here on. Exactly, we were initially told on APRIL 30 (!!!!!!!!!!) that there would be about 3 weeks wait on brickies, hmm, more like 8 weeks............ wizard Great news joannapaulp, definitely check out his work on the double story Wizard, will definitely be doing that. When we were first told that the brickie we were getting was working on a double storey down the road, we had a drive past to try and work out what one it was, but we guessed the wrong one, as the one we thought it was was a lot further down the road, and this one is only around 4-5 houses from us. On a less happy note, I think I may have found a problem with a missing bit of slab, the slab diagram shows the slab extending under the pillar for the portico, but when you look at the actual slab itself, it's not there. Having said that, on the diagram it is kind of blocked off from the rest of the slab, so maybe they will just pour the it when they do the brickwork, like the footing for a retaining wall maybe? Will call the SS to ask now. Re: Saville at Georges Fair - Bricks have arrived! 69Jul 01, 2010 1:29 pm No news yet on the missing bit of slab, except that the SS has said that he will 'investigate' and let me know when he calls with my weekly update tomorrow. On a much happier note though, I can tell you that our bricking has finally begun. We went out there on Monday, as we were told 100% it would start, but the bricks had just been moved around and placed in piles around the house in preparation for bricking to commence. So we went there on Tuesday to see what they had done, and they had done half of the left wall, the rear wall and one wall in the alfresco to about half height. So we decided to go last night as well, and they had finished above walls to full height, I walked around and got some pictures, but can't upload them to photobucket from work, so will try and do that tonight. Another thing, next door are building with Metricon, and are quite a ways ahead of us, so far alonmg in fact that they decided to take down their temporary fence over the weekend, and as my SS decided to simply hang our temp fence off of their's, we now only have a fence around 3 sides of the site, so anybody could walk along in the dark (as the FOUR street lights near us are STILL not working, they have NEVER worked since they were installed), walk into our site and fall down the huge drop where our site was cut, and probably crack their head open on the edge of our slab. I really hope that doesn't happen, cause it would really not be nice to live somewhere knowing that that had happened right outside your living room window... Brickies appear to be doing a nice job from what I can see, they appear to be cleaning the brickwork as they go, which is good, and all prepends appear to be aligned vertically (it would really get to me having to see mis-aligned brickwork daily). Will try and stop by over the weekend again, see how much they have been able to get through, and hopefully the SS hasn't replaced the fence so I can have a look at the other side properly. I just hope that they don't do any bricking that just looks bad or wrong or anything, cause I don't think I could stand to look at it every day (I'm a bit of a perfectionist at times, everything has to look 'right', and once I notice a problem, that's all that I can see). A friend of mine who is building told me to check where the bricks have a corner that goes 'in', rather than out, like between the Alfresco doors, just to make sure that the bricks are lined up right, and that the mortar down the actual corner itself is vertical, and not wonky at all. From what I can see, the work done so far is great, but I must admit that these 'in' corners worry me, as we have like eight of them around the house (damn these new fangled funky house designs...), so they better be looking schmicko, or I will need to get the SS to get them fixed Re: Saville at Georges Fair - Bricks have arrived! 70Jul 01, 2010 1:34 pm joannapaulp I just hope that they don't do any bricking that just looks bad or wrong or anything, cause I don't think I could stand to look at it every day (I'm a bit of a perfectionist at times, everything has to look 'right', and once I notice a problem, that's all that I can see). If there is something you're not happy with, you'll just have to give your ss a hard time until it’s fixed. I am a perfectionist too so like you I want everything perfect, building a house is a huge investment, why should anyone settle for second best Current status: Busy making the house our home Built PD Francis 29 on our 576m2 block at Reflections in Tarneit Reflections Estate Thread Our Build Thread Re: Saville at Georges Fair - Bricking Started 71Jul 04, 2010 3:31 pm Ok, the missing bit of slab wasn't actually misssing, was just a footing buried under the gravel that is down for the driveway, which is why I couldm't see it. Did notice another problem though, we paid to have the recessed hot water system, and with the bricking they did yesterday, I can plainly see that they have not installed the pipework as such, as it is sticking out from the brickwork, when it should be within the brickwork, will have to bring this up with SS as well. Also, the space between the sliding doors and the brickwork above them in te Alfresco is uneven, above one it is about 2cm, the other is about 3cm, I know these will be filled with an infill panel, but it just looks stupid, seeing as how they are the same size, and right next to each other... The bricking is powering along, they just need to do half the front, the pillar for the portico, alfresco pillar, and a couple of support posts in the garage, should finish tomorrow I reckon. Re: Saville at Georges Fair - Bricking Started 72Jul 05, 2010 3:01 pm Ok, spoke with the SS, and according to him, our CSO has raised the variation for the recessed HWS wrong! Apparently, she raised it as a recessed electrical box, not HWS, so I am currently waiting on her calling me back so I can vent at her and make her fix it (I wonder if we would get the recessed electrical box that they have set up for for free???) I might call her back every 15-20 minutes until she either answers me or calls me back... Re: Saville at Georges Fair - Problem Sorted 73Jul 05, 2010 9:59 pm Sorted, she called and admitted that she stuffed up, and is raising a variation tomorrow to fix it. Hopefully I will get to keep the recessed electrical meter box they were planning on installing as well Re: Saville at Georges Fair - Problem Sorted 74Jul 06, 2010 7:44 am That’s great news, the hassles could all be worth it though if you get to keep the recessed electrical meter box Current status: Busy making the house our home Built PD Francis 29 on our 576m2 block at Reflections in Tarneit Reflections Estate Thread Our Build Thread Re: Saville at Georges Fair - Problem Sorted 75Jul 06, 2010 2:45 pm thats what i'm thinking, I hope we get to keep it, as that is a bit of extra space down that side of the house, make it easier to pull the bins, wheelbarrows etc through Re: Saville at Georges Fair - Problem Sorted 76Jul 07, 2010 9:32 pm Signed the variation today fixing up the recessed HWS, and there was NOT anything on there about taking away the recessed electrical box Did a drive by today after we had the little man at the doctors, and there is a lovely electrical box sized square hole in the garage wall, so yay, we get a free recessed electrical meter box!!! Bricking is finished, looks like they did a good job, will wait till our inspection to bring up any issues we may find. There are about 2 pallets of face bricks left over, will have to talk to SS about leaving them, will help with the retaining walls and brick pillars in the fences... Eaves lining was delivered in the last couple of days, and should be finished by the end of the week, with electrical rough in done next week, then..... we will be at lockup baby!!!!! Re: Saville at Georges Fair - Problem Sorted 77Jul 19, 2010 2:37 pm Yay, we got to keep the recessed electrical box. We had a drive around the estate, and it seems that we will be the only house that has it, makes us feel a little bit unique now (but just a little bit). Hmm, what else has been happening: We are still missing half of the temporary fence Recessed HWS box has been delivered Electrical rough-in done Insulation delivered and installed (only know this because of a certain spy - thanks Bek ) We are meeting up on site with the SS tomorrow morning to have an inspection, make sure all the powerpoints etc are where they are supposed to be, and make sure we are happy with the brickwork (there's a gap between the bathroom window and the bricks that I'm not too happy about, will talk to SS tom orrow to see what can be done about it (I can poke my finger in the gap and touch the timber frame - none of the other windows have this gap, so maybe the brickies will just need to re-do this bit of the wall?) he park across the road STILL isn't opened, even though we were told it would be opening in early/mid June, and yes, there is not much play equipment there for the kiddies, will have to petition someone to put more in at some point, oh, the list never ends does it? Anyway, will probably try to post again tomorrow after the inspection with what we find and what the SS says. Re: Saville at Georges Fair - Wow, lots of progress 78Jul 21, 2010 12:32 pm So we had our inspection yesterday, went pretty well, SS was pretty good with all our questions about everything. In all, we only had a couple of issues: Electrical point in Bed 4 was in the very corner, was supposed to be centered between window and corner, this is getting fixed. Electrical point in Bed 3 was in the very corner, was supposed to be about 50cm out from corner, this is getting fixed as well. Electrical and TV point in Master niche is too low, electrical people are fixing this. All our other electrics are in the right place, but we now know that we should have bit the bullet 9 months ago and probably doubled what we did put in there, oh well, my mate the sparky will be getting a LOT of work from us When we arrived on site, there was a guy there cutting the hole and installing our recessed HWS box, and he had a copy of the Tyrell's inspection that had been done (have emailed the CSO to get a copy), and he said that there were only a couple of things on there for fixing, so all is looking good. Update on works so far: Insulation had been put in all the walls, and about 50% of the ceiling, that will be finished off before the gyprock starts going on either today or tomorrow. Outlook for the next 2-3 weeks: Walls & Ceilings - 4 days Cornices - 2 days Doors, skirting and architraves - 3-4 days Kitchen cabinets Waterproofing and Tiling When we were talking to SS about tiling, and we mentioned that we were supplying the tiles for kitchen splashback, and feature tiles for bathroom & ensuite, he told us that when the tiler was there, just to come on site and give him the tiles, then when he was finished, to come on site and pick up the remainders - just a bit of a contradiction to what he initially told us when we started, that we were not allowed on site, then that we were not allowed on site without him. I suppose the fact that we are missing half of our temporary fence, and you can walk straight around it to get inside has kind of dulled him on the whole 'not allowed on site' thing. Mind you, he did bring us in through the gate, and lock the gate up when we left On the other end of the scale, the rubbish pile had been cleared up, so all the 20-30 roof tiles that were piled there that I was going to ask to be left are gone forever. Plus, forgot to ask to have the leftover face bricks left as well, will have to speak to SS about it when I talk to him next. Actually, there is still about a dozen or so roof tiles on site, they are propping up the portaloo so that it is level forgot about that Re: Saville at Georges Fair - Locked Up and Locked Out 79Jul 28, 2010 8:40 am So, went by the house last night, and from what we can see through the windows, we have the following: Cornices Skirting Architraves Internal Doors External Doors Don't think they have finished the skirting, as there is still a sizeable pile of it sitting in the garage. All doors are hung except for the wardrobe doors, but they are in the rooms. Our front door, laundry door and garage internal access door are all hung and locked up tight.
