Re: Anyone Heard of Freelife Homes in WA 583Mar 28, 2015 4:24 pm Interesting to know thanks melsie and heretro help. I would rather Freelife be bought out to be honest. Woo fingers crossed... Though what would happen with complaints against Freelife to the BC? Would they just become void or would the company taking over be subject to it? Of course, I'm just speculating. After 14.5 months of build time, I've heard so many things!!! Re: Anyone Heard of Freelife Homes in WA 584Mar 28, 2015 5:08 pm I think everyone on here would probably agree that if Freelife gets bought out and a company takes over, they wouldnt necessarily seek damages if they just hurry up and finish it off. Re: Anyone Heard of Freelife Homes in WA 585Mar 28, 2015 5:41 pm heretohelp I think everyone on here would probably agree that if Freelife gets bought out and a company takes over, they wouldnt necessarily seek damages if they just hurry up and finish it off. I agree. However, I meant in regards to people that are already progressing through official complaints. Re: Anyone Heard of Freelife Homes in WA 586Mar 29, 2015 1:24 am Hi, I was wondering if anyone has paid for their solar panels upfront. I have paid $4,187 to Freelife for a 4 X photo voltaic panels, 1.5kw capacity. As Land lease will then reimburse me this amount when I have them fitted. Also I paid them $2,738 for a bosch 2 panel with 300L gas booster tank. I am a bit confused that the house should come with a gas hot water system so why am I paying for it anyway? Advice and views would be appreciated, Thanks Re: Anyone Heard of Freelife Homes in WA 587Mar 29, 2015 9:34 am hamishmactavish15 Hi, I was wondering if anyone has paid for their solar panels upfront. Off the top of my head, I don't ever remember the HWS being a Bosch... Re: Anyone Heard of Freelife Homes in WA 588Mar 29, 2015 10:48 am I received the same email on Friday that I received in November. Waiting waiting. I think we should be told the truth. If a company does buy Freelifes list then they will only be interested in the jobs that haven't gone to site yet. Seriously who would want to finish a truck load of houses when Freelife already have a huge percentage of the $$$ already. Heard a lot of rumours about this company what to beeline I suppose we will just have to wait and see. Management think there is no problem now that's the problem. Re: Anyone Heard of Freelife Homes in WA 589Mar 29, 2015 11:36 am Sadly you are right freelifenoway, builders won't take on unfinished jobs unless there is a lot of profit left in them, in addition if they take on the jobs they become liable for the warranty - again not something I think will happen. I wish I had better info to share Re: Anyone Heard of Freelife Homes in WA 590Mar 29, 2015 12:19 pm I disagree with Denten and Freelife No Way. If a company HAS bought over Freelife than they take on all responsibilities and liabilities. This includes finishing or starting ALL jobs, becoming responsible for the liability. Whilst to many this could seem unbelievable - I have been told by many professionals that this can happen. It really would be the best outcome for us. I am surprised that people are actually hoping Freelife go under. It can take many more months or YEARS before anything is sorted, particularly because of the sheer volume of people affected. Those in the later stages will suffer as the last payment doesn't usually cover as much as what is needed. This is only my opinion, but I think it is a very silly thing to wish to happen. I suppose, unfortunately, all we can do now is sit and wait. There really is not much else we can do. We have not heard from Freelife personally, in 3 or 4 weeks. It is truly heartbreaking to think the amount of time we have been waiting for our one house, we could've built 3 houses! The only saving grace is the quality of work for us and the area we are in. I urge you all to make complaints, but more importantly keep your chin up and look after your health. I know I have had several breakdowns and even a couple of panic attacks. I do not even visit my build weekly anymore. I'm crossing everything that things turn around. Re: Anyone Heard of Freelife Homes in WA 591Mar 29, 2015 12:56 pm I was informed by the insurance company that if they go under we can complete our homes and the insurance will cover any additional costs. Is this true or not. Sorry to hear about your story N3II3 these people are pushing us to break. Re: Anyone Heard of Freelife Homes in WA 592Mar 29, 2015 12:57 pm Free life no way I was informed by the insurance company that if they go under we can complete our homes and the insurance will cover any additional costs. Is this true or not. Sorry to hear about your story N3II3 these people are pushing us to break. Admittedly I had not spoken to the insurance company directly - so that is good to know! I just want SOMETHING to happen, so we all know where we stand in the situation. Re: Anyone Heard of Freelife Homes in WA 593Mar 29, 2015 1:24 pm Free life no way I was informed by the insurance company that if they go under we can complete our homes and the insurance will cover any additional costs. Is this true or not. Sorry to hear about your story N3II3 these people are pushing us to break. Yes this is correct, depending on the policy the amount is capped at $100k because you shouldn't have paid too much ahead of actual work done. This is when other builders come in because the insurance companies deal with the warranty issues. I'm only speaking from my experience as former business manager of a small, high spec builder - we did help out customers once they had their insurance payment. We wouldn't have considered buying out an insolvent builder due to potential reputation/warranty issues - but we were not project builders either. Re: Anyone Heard of Freelife Homes in WA 594Mar 29, 2015 2:00 pm Why isn't there a law for building companies to protect clients against constant delays. All building companies should by law, finish a percentage of houses that they've taken on, before selling any more house and land packages.. This would ensure that small companies don't cause undue financial stress to customers. It seems like this company is still selling house and land packages both north and south of the river.( I guess with the housing boom they were greedy to get people signing on the dotted line!!!) However after the initial slab and brick work the delays start coming!!!! As the house gets nearer to finishing, more trades are required, therefore money is needed more often to pay them. Hence the delays. It seems like Freelife didn't have much money in the kitty before they started this company. Which is a recipe for disaster. The hia contract isn't well written at all. 9c explains the builder can extend the build with 20 days notice to the client, but doesn't stipulate how many times they can extend the contract to. So technically it could go on for years!!!!! NUTS Re: Anyone Heard of Freelife Homes in WA 595Mar 29, 2015 3:35 pm Our house is at lock up. We owe 30+k yet we have a turn key package. Not much motivation for Freelife to finish it off concidering how much money goes into completion. I know they have been trying to get houses to this point to collect the bulk of the $$$. The insurance company will be left holding the ball on this one. Would love to know how many people they have done this too. We need to rally together. We need to get our message across since the authorities have know of this companies shifty ways for a very long time. Seriously what has to happen so all us affected can get on with our life's. This is the arrogance we are dealing with. Maybe if their family's were effected they might understand. Re: Anyone Heard of Freelife Homes in WA 596Mar 29, 2015 4:29 pm I am getting so stressed by this company I'm not sleeping at all.! I worry constantly about my future, losing the house, as well as my deposit on it). I'm supposed to have shared care with my son, who I haven't had with me since June last year. His life is being disrupted and I miss him terribly. He needs stability with both his parents and it's affecting him a lot. I don't have a partner and this adds to the burden on finances. The type of work I do is contractual working from my friends garage. This is also impacting him too. He would like his own space back! I really hope that Freelife come to the table and do the right thing by all of us. It's frustrating!!!!!!!!!!!! Re: Anyone Heard of Freelife Homes in WA 597Mar 29, 2015 4:38 pm The problem is these people don't think they are doing anything wrong. It's everyone else's problem not theirs. We need to make lots and lots of noise before we all lose everything we have worked for. Wonder if the media would be interested. Re: Anyone Heard of Freelife Homes in WA 598Mar 29, 2015 5:31 pm As was discussed earlier - if you're out of contract - I suggest making an official complaint and maybe even send an email to the BC enforcement branch. In this complaint - you can ask for a remedy ie HamishMacTavish - you might ask to cover rental repayments for example. If you're still in contract, be proactive and also email the enforcement branch. Technically, even though there are SO many issues, an official complaint is probably not worth it just yet. But definitely the more people emailing the enforcement branch will get things being looked at IF THEY ARE NOT BEING LOOKED AT ALREADY. Hopefully the company is already being investigated, and hopefully the take over rumours are true. It'll all come out eventually but you have to make a decision on what route you want to take at the present moment..! Good luck guys. Re: Anyone Heard of Freelife Homes in WA 599Mar 29, 2015 6:37 pm Hi All Thanks for all the useful information so far. Reassuring to hear the responses from QBE and the Building Commission. Sorry if I have missed this somewhere in the feed, has anyone contacted their bank? Just wondering if they might be able to investigate this in more detail than the average consumer? A half finished house is a pretty lousy asset for them and I would have thought it is in their best interest that people are left in a position to be able to pay them back. So while banks aren't renowned for caring attitudes, I am curious if they have had any helpful information so far? Basically they don't have any power to do anything... The lady I spoke to basically said she just won't accept any more applications from Freelife customers haha Wish you all the best.
