With the tiling to the ceiling my belief of most people is that you say you will do it later but nobody every does, or if they do it will be in 10 years. I am cynical. with me our slab prep is on fire, check out my blog, but I still have not had a contact provided or has anybody spoke to me, but things are happening so I will remain quiet for now _____________________________________________________________ Building a Masterton Villina - Contemporary http://mynottsbuildavillina.blogspot.com/ Re: Masterton Homes 483Aug 11, 2009 1:42 pm Hey Mastertonians, My wife & I have our Colour Appointment on Thursday, quick question... do we have to finalise flooring at this meeting ? I ask as we're probably going to use Accent carpets for the carpets upstairs, however unclear whether to use them for the solid timber floors downstairs. Thought after the appointment we could still shop around for quotes and compare against Accent? Is this the case or am I just deluded? Thanks Tony Hi Tony, Yes you do need to finalise flooring at your colour appointment,so i would get some quotes before you go. We got some on carpet and laminate flooring before hand which where cheaper than accent with what i was looking for.But in saying that people on here have found accent to be well priced and choose to do there flooring through them. I was also indecisive on which colour carpet and laminate flooring to go so figured i would also have more time to decide if we did it after handover kkatt Re: Masterton Homes 485Aug 11, 2009 8:52 pm Hi Tony, Yes you do need to finalise flooring at your colour appointment,so i would get some quotes before you go. Looks like tomorrow we'll be travelling far & wide for flooring quotes. If we survive the colour appointment i'll post here and let you all know how we all get on. I checked out your blog! That's fantastic news about your slab. Reading through your blog though it shows how inconsistent everything can be though - we started our process 3 months prior to you guys and are now about a month behind!! I wonder if it will remain that way all along. We have also heard no news from them about a start date or a construction manager or SS. Wonder when that will happen. Up until this point we haven't been dealing direct with Masterton so I wouldn't really know who to call! Re: Masterton Homes 489Aug 12, 2009 7:45 am Beebob this thread is getting really big. I was trying to get back to a part that I remembered and it took me forever! Perhaps we need our own forum! Re: Masterton Homes 490Aug 12, 2009 9:05 am Congratulations J&T! Good to hear about a build going as well as yours. Gives us all hope I think. Fingers crossed you get your rails soon. You should also change your signature to Built!! Re: Masterton Homes 491Aug 12, 2009 1:01 pm dmynott Hey all, This Masterton forum is starting to grow a crowd, make me feel better, when I first started to read this there was a couple and I was starting to think that for such a large builder, where are all the people. With the tiling to the ceiling my belief of most people is that you say you will do it later but nobody every does, or if they do it will be in 10 years. I am cynical. with me our slab prep is on fire, check out my blog, but I still have not had a contact provided or has anybody spoke to me, but things are happening so I will remain quiet for now Hi dmynott, I think you're probably right about the tiling to the ceiling. In our investigations we've come upon another complication. We have our meeting with Don's Tiles this Saturday so we were trying to get an idea of what it would cost us elsewhere to do the floor tiles. We mentioned our plan about doing tiles to ceiling in wet areas after handover. We were told it's probably not a good idea and can get quite complicated. Apart from having to remove all the fixtures to put the tiles in, there are also apparently issues with tiling on painted walls. The tiler we spoke with said that most tile adhesives don't recommend use on painted surfaces so you would probably have to remove the paint somehow. Otherwise, they could not guarantee the performance of the adhesive and if you had problems down the track, no one would take accountability. It was possible, he said to have the walls unfinished and left unpainted so someone could then do the tiling, but I'm not sure that Masterton would agree to that. In any case, it's looking a lot more complicated than we first thought and so I suspect that we'll get Masterton to do the tiling to ceilings in bathrooms. As to floor tiles, I wish I was a little more prepared on what it was likely to cost. The tiler we spoke with said a basic price was around $50 per sqm for supply and installation. So we have to work out what it will be with Don's and make a decision on the day. Ugh. As for carpets - we got a ballpark quote yesterday for around $8 - 9,000 for around 200sqm. It was something like $150 per broadloom metre, fully installed (including underlay). Has anyone here gotten a quote yet from Accent that you'd be willing to share? As for carpet - we were quoted $6,750 (+ $610 upgraded underlay) for 100% wool carpet for 38 broad loom metres installed through Accent. BADH, I'm with you... I think we've been forgotten, those of us that started before all these newbies (no disrespect intended ) - we were promised a pegout over 2 weeks ago we follow them up again - and they've forgotten to order it! With the change in procedures there seems to be confusion as to who is responsible for what - they need to remember/determine if you're on the old or the new system.... its crazy and I just want my house! Friends of ours that are building with EB finalised their plans at the same time as us, they have a slab, windows, most of their brick walls and a roof!!!! Hope you guys have an awesome time settling in to your new home. If anyone is interesting in knowing, I spoke to my sales guy today who informed me the for us to have a double shower in the ensuite, it would only cost an extra $400 so we're definitely going for it!! "do we buy or build" BADH It is very strange with the scheduling that they have done, we were not provided with a start date, just counted 20 days from the certificate and was looking at that and then a friend called me to say there was a fence. They have almost compelted the form work and ready to lay the slab and still nothing. I am sure that somebody will call once the slab is done as they will want there Money$$$$$$. _____________________________________________________________ Building a Masterton Villina - Contemporary http://mynottsbuildavillina.blogspot.com/ Re: Masterton Homes 496Aug 12, 2009 8:10 pm We spoke to our SS today and he said as long as we dead lock the front door we can move in on Friday ... I was taking the kids to the park today and on the way thought I would do a "drive-by" to the block.....and....they are excavating!!! Big chunks of sandstone everywhere and heaps still stuck in the ground - the parts all along the fence where we need to cut 800mm go under our neighbours fence so they'll need to cut them - jack hammering will disturb our neighbours foundations. Of course no word from Masterton yet!! Anyway here are some pics! All that yellowy looking flat bit and the big chunk that is jutting out is sandstone....ah the joys of living on a street that had a quarry at the end of it!
